Default New Rear Bumper for DII From RTE

Just saw this picture of RTE's new rear bumper for the DII's, looks dam near as good as mine. They will start shipping them in 2 weeks for $1100 and change.

$975 That's a lot of dough
I built one similar to that with a receiver hitch for $150. It wasn't that difficult with a 4x4 piece of square tubing and 4" plate. It took one weekend.

The DAP skidplate finished it off real nice--Thanks Muddy Oval!

O.B.,

If you tally up your weekend hours at a typical welding shop hourly rate, and then add the $150 you spent on materials, it surely comes to about a grand.

I have an RTE rear bumper on order, with round nerf bars and a set of sliders with matching round nerf bars. Can't wait to see 'em.

Add in another 100.00 for blasting and powercoating, on top of grinding wheels, cost of tools, cost of time, etc....You have more than 150.00 in your bumper. Material is only part of the job. Sure, if you have the space/time/tools to make your own shit, that is by far the way to go. But, for someone who does not have this access, 975.00 is not a bad deal.

Steve,
I thought you already had sliders????

If you are not a welder, you will be looking at apx.$1000 for a solid rear bumper. Material, labor and powder coating ran me a little over $1050.

Hank you always keep forgetting to add in the Land Rover factor dude as I am sure Ryan can point out to you. The truth of the matter is you can buy the exact same damn bumper fabbed up for other types of vehicles for $350-$600 bucks.

The Land Rover offroad market is a small one therefor the companies who supply off the shelf bolt on mods stick it to you...plus again it is a Land Rover.

I call it the Land Rover Effect.

I think you said you have a Yota...I was just looking at a slim line on a Tundra yesterday...truck had an awesome three link suspension lift on it...35" tires...front and rear ARB lockers..you name it...it was done up right..the guy said he paid like $400 for his back bumper and there was more to his then what we put on our Rovers...the design was pretty sick..said he bought the front and back bumper as a set and paid $900 for both...the front looked something like RTE's A-Bar but was allot nicer in my opinion. I actually wanted a picture of it but he was in a hurry. I parked next to him at a local shopping center and just struck up a conversation as his truck dwarfed my little Rover setting next to it.

We both had a good chuckle about our Mall Crawlers setting in the shopping center parking lot....hey but they looked tough setting there and were both getting allot of attention.

How much I charge myself for a weekend of labor--Nothing!
The worth of building my own equipment with my own hands--Priceless!
