I found this suspension kit for my 1991 Range Rover Classic. Its from www.mm-4x4.com
Its $550. Look like a good deal? 3 inch but W/procomp shocks is the only thing i dont really like. People sey they are procrap. Thoughts?I want some decent fun out of it on the trail but nothing nuts. Weekend trips and daily driving in the winter. rangie feels real spongey and the suspension is shot after 188k. ANy other reasonably priced options like this? ANy input helps. Thanks! ![]() |

I took a look at this companies website. Where did you find them?
Since you quoted the price in dollars, I assume you are in the USA? I wouldn't bother ordering from a company in the UK when there are so many good (if not better...) options here in the US. Plus, if you have any problems with install or performance, it will be much easier to get cust svc here than across the pond. Go to www.rovertym.com Give them a call and describe what you're after and they will set you up. Regarding the ProComp shocks: The internet is like a big pile-on when somebody badmouths a particular brand. While I would not suggest ProComp shocks are the best out there, they aren't complete crap either. I run ProComp shocks on the DI w/ RTE 3" springs and haven't had any problems. I know a few others who run them as well, and wheel them HARD, and haven't had issues. Others may have had problems,,, but the same can be said about any companies shocks.

Just what I would suggest. I have pro comps on my 109 and had them on my Disco before I went with the scorpion 2" lift. The only reason why I ditched them was because the Scorion kit came with De-carbons. I like the pro comp. I suppose you need to get a suspension system that is best suited to your driving. I would use different shocks for general purpose vs rock crawling etc..... Good luck.

They're ok, not great, just ok. I ave them on my truck because at the time I needed a longer shock but didn't want to spend. Had them maybe a year and a half and will replace them pretty soon. Some people have had bad luck with them, especially on D1's it seems. Anyone who raves about them probably hasn't ever run a decent shock.

I'm running them on my D1 with a Rovertym 3" lift.
so far the ride is excellent. I'm going do a flex test at hollister Saturday the 8th.

I would not say ProComps are crap but they do have a bad lot of shocks out there. The HD ones from DAP that have the entire stud welded are a little stronger. I had one of my rear ones break on me after a run out to Uwharrie this spring. DAP ended up replacing them after trying to tell me it was the fault of either my RTE springs or Installation. I got new HD rear shocks out of it so I don't care what they want to blame it on. But if there was not problem why would they redesign the shock is my only question?
They do tend to bounce a little much if you are fully loaded though. So if you haul a lot of stuff you might want a heavier shock. I went camping with some friends this summer and had 5 people and their camping gear in the truck going out on the beach and the truck was bouncing like a pogo stick with all the weight But we did have the roof rack loaded up too. So not your typical load for the truck. Normal driving and off roading I'm satisfied with the PC shocks. The springs in that kit look like Britpart springs they have only been around for a little while and I've not heard much about them. The cones and other stuff looks pretty cheap. If you are in the US I would not order from the the UK I had considered that when I got my lift because I had been ordering my series parts from the UK for years. But the shipping of a suspension kit will probably run you $100-200 which will end up being more then buying the kit in the US. But if you really want to order from the UK you might want to consider Paddocks Spares as well I've always had good luck with them.

ok ill try again. I think i know more what i want now for suspension. I would really like to get three inches of lift. I want a HEAVY DUTY spring. I plan for alot of weight on the truck. People on here are saying good thing about BIG BLUE springs, any input anyone?Im afraid rovertym wud break my wallet just on springs. I wish i could go that route, but wud ultimatley cost more than what i paid for the truck! Where can i find these springs? DO they come in HD? As far as shocks, im think Rancho, ome, or bilstien? Anyone know where i can get the correct ranchos? Can i get the extra 2 in travel ones and not have to extend brake lines and crap? What are absolutley necessary components if i plan on doing a 3in lift with ranchos? Im confused on cones and retainers, bumpstops, checkstraps ect...
SHock drop brackets?necessary? I think i need a 101 on Rangie suspension. I weekend wheel and drive this truck as a winter driver as well. I want good travel and decent flex, not too extreme though, my budget is small cause i have so much more i want to do! im sure all can relate. Thanks for replying, i just am a little overwhelmed by options and dont want shit i dont need, but want all the necessary shit i do need to make sure im not snappin brake lines or having springs pop out. Thanks guys! as soon as i get suspension i need some guys (WITH ROVERS!) to wheel with here in COLORADO!![]()

I have a set of big blue 3" springs and a set of pro comps off my D1 they have about 9k on them. Not sure if they interchange with your rig or not, but if they do I'd sell the set (shocks and springs) for $300 plus shipping.

Procomps would work for my wifes truck......
If you want to watch the wallet and load the truck up get the RTE springs BUT the procomps will not like the weight. look for some OMEs Just my 2c

With a 2 inch lift you should not need to adjust brake-lines or any other stuff. Most of these after market places attempt to sell you new shocks with a new set of springs. But the two events are not really related. |
