Looks good!
If you want it for placement of a winch... just make sure the cradle will fit your desired winch. Other than that, go for it.

The only draw back I can think of would be that the front recovery points don't swivel. Maybe they can leave a hole punched in there for swivels or maybe they can actually mount them for you.
Other than that, it looks sweet. I love their racks!

Those recovery points look like a trail death just waiting to happen... yikes.

Has anyone seen this bumper in person and able to speak as to build quality? I mean I don't expect $G or RTE quality but... i don't want to rip it off the truck or have to spend too much more time and money getting it up to my standards

i have the NWP bumper and i love it. for the money, i don't think that there is anything better. people have said that their weld appearance isn't as good and they're right. apart from that, i haven't been disappointed. also, keep in mind that the the way the weld looks doesn't speak to how strong it is. the bumpers can be ordered without the d-rings. i have them on mine but i agree, get them without and get a nice pair of swivels.
as for winches, i think that you'd have a hard time finding one that didn't fit. i know someone with a NWP bumper that has a ramsey 12k in it. that's a pretty big winch. their tray is huge and it isn't drilled for anything specific. nicole and andrew are the owners and they're both super cool to work with. i'd order it unfinished so that you can dress some of the welds and bevel the edges (they're sharp!) and then powder coat or line-x or whatever. i just spray painted mine. i'm cheap! if you have any more questions, feel free to pm me. andy |

actually, you can tell a lot from the appearance of a weld. everything I've seen from them was poor so far. Shallow welds, bad penetration (you know how bad that can be). A bad weld on a winch bumper can be a catastrophe.

i agree that a weld that looks poor in appearance could indicate poor penetration, etc. what i was saying was that the converse isn't necessarily true-that a good weld that looks like a stack of dimes will hold no matter what. by my relatively untrained eye, it appears that NWP uses a wire feed rather than stick TIG. obviously a stick welded piece will look a lot nicer. all i can say is that from my ownership and the reports of others who have used it as intended, they haven't had any problems. and, i'm a fan of the underdog, i guess.
disco, i say go for it. price wise i can't imagine anything better and they have great support. you can see pics of the bumper both on and off my truck at cascaderovers.org under member photos. my name is andy berglund. |
