Default Pro Comp shocks/springs?

I just ordered Pro Comp.suspension set up(shocks/springs-med.2" lift) from Rovers North for my 97' LR Disco.Wondering if anyone else has this set up and or experience with either?Trying to get the unit ready for the National Rally(Moab) and this is my first big mod.Anything else I should be wary of during the swap? Thanks for any input.

I have used the procomp shocks with big blue 3" springs and didn't have a problem with them on my 97 Disco. Some don't like them because they say they are to soft. They are softer them OME and other setup's, but like I said I never had a problem with mine on or off the road. I found my set to work without a problem over a wide range of terrain from rocks to mud to fire roads.

Yeah,I called Rovers North and asked their advice on set up(ProComp-set was about 100.00 less than OME or Bilstein) and they said from what I described(vehicle) and proposed use that the ProComps would be a good choice. They said OME were very good off road but stiff and not as good(ride wise) on road.I am a proponent of "you get what you pay for" so that is why I questioned the price difference.I have 255/70/16 tires on it now and don't know if I want(or should go bigger) with the lift(actually just looking for a little more off road ability). As soon as the suspension arrives it is going under the knife so I should know if I made the right choice in a week or two.More mods to come.

You have one of my all-time favorite Porsches, so I will forgive you. But YOU WILL NOT be happy with ProCrap set-up if you are planning future mods. If that was all you were going to do, and a +1 setup on tires, you'd be fine. Fire roads, trails at nat'l forests, washouts, etc... No problem. Any type of real offroading you're going to hate them. Too soft for a HD bumper (with or without winch), too soft for a rear HD bumper and gas tank skid. And if you load up heavy for a camping trip, you're going to kick yourself.

Thanks on the P-car,it's been an awesom vehicle.I have brush guard on front but don't plan on adding too much weight up there.I have already ordered the stuff so I guess I will find out soon.As far as what springs(they are yellow-I figured they were also ProComp-they were part of the suspension package at Rovers North).

Default Lift-off!

Well, picked up the Disco from shop this morning with new suspension installed(Procomp shocks/2" lift yellow springs). It definitely sits higher, level, and has a better(firm) overall ride on the road.I love the look(could fit some bigger tires-currently 255/70/16's) but they look fine. The real test will be off road. This is better than the 10 yr old units that were replaced for sure.Starting to look like a off road machine.I had new steering box and brake master cylinder(both were leaking) installed as well and what a difference in the steering and brakes. It's fun to drive now.

pro-comp is one of the most used jeep suspension upgrades used so they are nothing to be laughed at. People totally saying procomp has no use in offroad has never seen a jeep rock crawl or they would sit with jealosy. I am a pure LR fan, but, have to to give respect where respect is due.

You are comparing apples to lemons. You can't compare a suspension from a 3000 pound Jeep to what is needed to handle a 5000 plus Disco. Pro Comp shocks don't even come close to the necessary requirements needed for a Disco, they are not near the quality of OME's and Bilsteins.
So, yes, for a Jeep it may work well, but not a Rover.
So much for my 2 cents worth,
Mike

Nice P-car

The pro CRAP shocks will be fine for day to day driving. If you load up the disco the will sag out and under a heavy load the will fail in very bad ways.
Know the limits of your kit and you will be happy.

His views are phlawed if he thinks he can compare anything used on a heep to that used on a rover. No wonder he picked that pseudonym for a sign in name.

Default Lighten Up Francis!

Whoa boys!Didn't think this would evoke so much emotion.(By the way,I appreciate all of the feedback on my suspension purchase-even the negative stuff!).I am learning about my Rover as I go(especially with the modifications).I have not had the opportunity to take out and put through a proper off road test to give any real feedback pro(no play on words) or con.Probably won't extend it to the limit until I show up at Moab.If they don't perform,I will upgrade(live and learn). The on road ride(compared to worn out, probably OE springs and shocks) is night and day.I hope to hook up with some local(St.Louis area Rovernicks) and put it through the paces sometime soon.I am sure I will make another controversial modification or purchase in the near future as well and will rely on you guys to set me straight! And I thought the Porsche crowd was passionate! Not even close.Thanks.

I ran the ProComps on my Range Rover Classic for a few years. Matched with soft springs, like the ones you have (BritPart from the UK I believe), they perform fine on road and off-road in an unladen or lightly loaded vehicle.

What you'll find if you load up for a big trip, like to Moab, with loads of gear and a passenger or two, is that the performance is heavily hampered. When I took my shocks off and replaced them with Old Man Emu shocks, ALL of the dust boots were full of oil. I basically had a chain reaction meltdown while off-road and heavily packed where they all exploded!

I, like you, thought "what the hell" the price was right and the Rover dealers sell them so how bad can they be?

Don't worry, your fine for now, but keep an eye on them, how much weight you put on them, and plan to upgrade in the future...

Well, I am going to jump on this band wagon to get advice, not give it, as I am ready to by OME setup now.

Details: 03 D2 SE currently stock. Gearing up for off-road, which will be 1 maybe 2 weekends a month with guys that go for more than pre-cut trails. Definitely want to get at least a brush guard but may go with off-road bumper (no winch) with brush guard. Also want Rock Sliders, front to back skid plates, and I'll have the SD Roof Rack. With the lift the tires will likely be 245/75-16 or 265/75-16. I can see bringing 50-100 lbs of support gear and have put 400-500 lbs of material for construction or landscaping in the back of my previous truck.

Would still like a "half way decent" (smooth??) ride on-road, so I'd like to know what to expect.

My question is should I by the medium or firm springs? And depending on that answer, which shocks soft or firm.

I think I know the response I'll get, so go easy on me.

I have a 2000 Disco II - I drive it everyday and I also load it up and offroad. I have the HD OME set up (shocks and springs) all the way around. I also have an RTE bumper, skidplate, roofrack, and ladder. My rover rides perfectly fine on and offroad, and with all the weight of the rack, bumper, and skid I have still about 2 inches of lift and run a 265/75/16 AT tire. I call the ride mine has more than "half way decent"

On the procrap front - I have grown up around Heepers and traveled around rock crawling with my family and I would say that NO ONE in my family would EVER put procrap on their Jeeps.
