hate the game but please explain why you come up with this theory of why spring retentioners are not needed Im also intrested in finding out how you come with the conclusion to a statement made by you earlier like A 4 inch lift does not mean that they are 4 inches longer. They may be the same length as standard or only 1 or 2 inches longer. so which is 1 or 2 inches longer I think all here understand that spring settle and my end up with 4 inch 3inch due to weight |

What shocks are you getting that you would need retainers in the front? I'm running 3" plus springs with extended shocks and don't come near to un seating in the front. The rear is a different story, that's where I'm retained.
In the rear,if you haven't done it already, you'll need to extend your watts linkage for the extra length to do you any good. That's taking into account the sway bars being disconnected. I'd like to hear a bit more on your set up/ future plans.

with the 4 inch springs I wanted to go with 12 inch traveling shocks however been advised that its a no no due to the extra upon the extras that need to be done As for the watt linkage im getting them from RTE hopefully I plan on running a set of Bilstein 7100 10 inch travel the retainers are simply to hold things tight Ive spent a fair bit whats another $30 even with the 10 inch travel the rears should not come out agian its to hold things tight I would have prefured to go the 12 inch shocks and retain my spring top and bottom Unlike yours how ever all this runs around the ACE system which makes the planning hard hence why im trying to explain to P76ROVER that its been thought through and planned hard and done before the idea behind this isnt mine so I cant take credit I have added my own thoughts in like the Bilsteins 7100 but the travel the rates are all copied and done before with great credit to Slunnie from ALROC forum the only thing that differs is my spring rates and shock in model only, he to runs bilsteins he doesnt run spring retainers at all I dont think 280 ibs front spring and 320 ibs rear Im running 220 ibs front and 280ibs rear he runs a bull bar and winch Ill run tube bar and winch he apperently loads her up which I dont plan to im going with lockers which go in on the 10th of this month cant wait I still need bump stops which I need to locate |

Im buying them from www.eshocks.com here are my to options Part #: AK7110R06 Extended Length: 26.06" Collapsed Length: 16.03" in 10 inch travel how ever two revalved to do 400/100 or Part #: AK7112SB06 360/80 Extended Length: 28.06" Collapsed Length: 16.03for the front and for the rears Part #: AK7112SB99-400/100 Extended Length: 28.06" Collapsed Length: 16.03" 12 inch travel to run the 12 inch travel I need to either have cones on the rear extra long brake lines extra long ABS lines and the impossible and no one makes them extra line ACE sway bar links if I could retain the spring top and bottom it would mean thing will only flex as much as the spring allows them to Ive got extra travel in the shocks which should prevent them bottoming out mainly give me more option in the future these shocks are rebuildable so you can keep them for ever ![]() |

You have already purchased or completed most the stuff, so it is a bit pointless making any suggestions. But it is clear that you do not know the specifications of the springs you are putting in. Therefore, it is not possible to work out the suspension travel you are going to have and therefore any suggestion in regard to the length of shocks is just a guess. |

will it sit 4 inch higher then standard NO Im aware of that I would guess it will sit 3.5 inches and the length of the shocks wont make that much difference the only thing here so far that I am uncertain about is the shocks rates 360/80 front and 400/100 rear I hope this isn't to stiff but again the shocks can be re valved |

As they are heavier, how much have they reduced your axle travel by? Since they have reduced your axle travel, do you really need longer shocks or only reposition the standard shocks. Again, it would be easier to offer advice if I knew why you were wanting to raise the vehicle 4 inches. As we know that you can fit the tyres you have/want under standard suspension, there has to be another reason for the lift. Is the motor a TD5 or V8? What do you have hanging off the front (Bull Bar, winch, etc) Do you have a roof rack? If so, what do you carry on it. Do you usually travel with yourself and maybe one other or do you have a car full. How much weight do you carry in the back? If you want advice on shocks, you need to supply more information that you are putting in springs that are 4 inches longer. |

the reason why Im lifting the D2 four inch is due to the terrian I like and where I like going, previous to the Discovery I had a GU Patrol it started with 2inch lift and ended with a 6 inch lift and 35 I like doing the hard stuff its as simple as that nothing more nothing less Quote:

as mentioned I wanted spring retainers not that the spring will pop out however will do if I go a 12 inch how ever shouldnt if I go a 10 inch but more to secure the spring and stop them from clunking etc the watt linkage is sorted a front ACE links will be going on rears already have extended ABS and brake lines need bump stops however Im going to get ones that sit over the piston rod to protect the shock from bottoming out Im getting wheel spacers to widen the stance was going to go with 285 but advised the standard rims where to small and will wear out to quick will at a later stage get a set of 34 dont want to cut guards / fenders to get 35 but hay may change my mind im getting Diff locks ARB or Maxi Drivs did book in the ARB but uncertian there you go give me advice here where I want it |
