Default Replacement Speakers in 2000 Disco2

Hello,

I am relatively new to the forums, only a handfull of posts...anyway, have been wanting to upgrade the speakers in the Disco, i replaced the speakers in the back door(sub) with some cheapos from walmart b/c the factories completely fell apart. I found the Polk Audio MMC6500 and the Polk Audio db6501 on crutchifield, along with a ton of other brands of component speakers...i know the polks have great sound and all, a bit pricey and all, but the main question i have is what does it take to get the tweeters to go in the factory place? Has anyone done this? The factory speakers are sounding awful, and I would like to get away with just the speakers for now; upgrading the head unit and adding a small sub later...any help would be much appreciated. And any suggestions on a different speaker brand/set or feedback on these speakers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg S.

I love polks, both the MM's and the db's... Either would be great... But, these sound a lot better with more power, so I hope you plan on adding an amp. later on... They will do the job for now, but you may dislike them at times until you can feed them more power...

On a more expensive level, I'm a FOCAL man... If that's too much (which is a lot), stick with the Polk's...

To get the tweeters into the factory location, you're going to have to fabricate an adapter to mount the replacement tweeter to... Just be careful when you remove the factory mounts...

I think the Focals are a bit more than I wana spend on the rover. Polks are probably too much too, but what the hell, I will probably replace the headunit eventually. I kind of want one of those Kenwood KVT-512 Touchscreen/Navi combo. I think they will fit in the truck. Probably the only one that will, at least with navi. Do you have any recommendations for amplifiers? I have one thats a mono channel for a subwoofer. I dont think i will be adding subs to the truck. I just want the stereo to sound as good as possible. Might do the head unit change first to see how bad the OEM speakers sound like...
Anyways, thanks for the advice, much appreciated;

I replaced all the door speakers on my previous 00' DII with Kicker speakers. I don't remember the speaker model but they were fairly cheap (around $50 pair?). It did not have a sub unit in the rear door but it still had some decent bass. Stock head unit was used. It my opinion they sounded great.

Maybe the new owner can chime in. Joel (UpNorth)?

IMHO; There is only one choice when dealing with replacement component speakers. MB Quart. In my experience, Quality vs. price, everything else has failed in comparison.
