Default rovers north diff guard

anyone ever welded on the rover's north front diff guard for the d2?

i think i found on pretty damn cheap, but it can't tighten enough to stay onto the diff like it was advertised. just thinking i would cut off the bolt on loop and then have the bottom half welded on.

good plan?

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to weld it on as long as you can still get to the drain and fill plugs.

answered my own question. this guy is welding one to a D90 here.

sweet. i'll have someone tack it on. if i think it will be a struggle to get to the fill plug then i'll cut a wider opening from the little dip that comes on it.

Disconnect your battery before welding.

Chris; don't forget to change your diff fluid after welding. The heat of the welding boils the fluid, and it loses it's protective qualities and introduces impurities. You should have seen the fluid I drained out after I trussed and armored my axles. Holy Cow!

Disconnect your alternator too.

- 90w or 85w140 (I run 85w140 dino oil)
- Auto parts store
- 5gal pail, you'll use it eventually (if you get 5gal, I'd get GL4 so you know it's safe for your transfer case, it takes the "same" as the diff. Get a pump that fits on the pail then you don't have to fool with plastic hose on quart bottles.)
- Yes.
