Yes.

I had that one on my old 1995 RRC. I had my spare tire in there to save space in the rear cargo area. I thought it was o.k. I did buy the 'spare tire mount' for it, it braced the extra weight well and had a very secure metal rod to thread a bolt to, in order to keep the heavy wheel/tire combo in place. It was noisy and added noticeably to the aerodynamic (if you can use that word with a RRC) drag. I sold the rig in this configuration.

On my current 1992 RR1 I tried this configuration (better low profile rack that was much stronger) with a 285/75 spare. On this rig this set up bugged me! I even have a 4.6L engine but the drag seemed unacceptable (maybe I was doing trails further away). So I used the tie downs in the floor of the rear cargo area to secure my spare tire, and two strom cases. The rig feels much better with the load down low.

I guess you should decide what you want to carry. Light bulky stuff is ideal, but will add drag at highway speeds that could bug you. But if its the difference between having a tent and sleeping bags on an off road trip go for it!

Send me a PM with your e-mail address for photos of the racks mounted and in action.

Im a fan of the brownchurch rack from RN. Strong, fits/looks much better, etc. But it is more expensive and is powdercoated steel so it will eventually rust. I had one for 9 yrs and it was used when I bought it. A couple rusty sections but still very usable when I sold it last year for 150 bucks. Gordo.

IMO they are weak! With that being said I am basing that upon a friends roofrack.. He cant hold the weight my Yakima can and has been very disappointed. I have never personaly had one so this is just an opinion from what I have seen!

The Safari rack is kinda of weak but it has it's uses. You could always beef it up if you didn't want to spend more money on a rack.

good point, you can always weld another gutter rail support to each side.

The flooring on the D2 is Rhino from 4X4AG.com. It is much quieter and stronger than the chicken flooring. I sold the rack a while back though.
