Default screen with snorkel? bad idea?

alright, so i have a safari snorkel and i keep finding a bunch of leaves and bugs under my air filter.. so would it be a bad idea to buy some screen and put it behind the criss-cross panel that is at the head of the filter (where it sucks the air in) and it isn't real tiny screen, it is a bit more open than normal screen for one's patio. if that makes any sense..

thank you

The centrifugal precleaners work well for keeping larger particles out, but the good ones aren't cheap.
To your specific question, a small piece of wire mesh would be cheap enough to just try it.

i don't see why not, as long as none of the screen can get into your engine

or you don't have so many bugs that it would clog the screen and limit your airflow....like in florida's lovebug season haha

i didn't even know you had a snorkel....i feel like my disco is so naked compared to its black hannibal brother.

Just pull the crap out from time to time.

I think the screen is just one more place to clean.

A few things to think about before putting a screen on the air intake.

First roll it up into a ball and look at it. This is the amount of extra air flow restriction you will be adding to the intake. Most likely not a big deal but with a snorkel you have already added a significant change in air flow.

As you drive dirt and grime will build up on a mesh screen. Off road, mud and dust may clog it up, defeating the purpose of the snorkel.

Finally, the mesh may rip and be sucked down into snorkel, it will not make it past the air filter but it will clog things up.

Just clean it out as needed. The air filter can handle leaves and bugs no problem.
