Default Speaker location

I was sitting in traffic las night, annoyed at the new found noise from the Disco (crackling from one of the rear speakers... what the hell?), and it got me thinking about the acoustics of the Disco, and space savings and whatnot.

What I'm wondering is: has anyone relocated the speakers in the rear pilars somewhere else and used that space to mount a fire extinguisher, tow straps, etc.?

I was thinking about mounting the speakers in place of the mesh pockets on the ceiling, infront of the rear passangers, instead of down by the floor on the rear door.

I dunno, I was just bored last night and got me wondering about who else has thought of this. Criticisms? Opinions? Let 'er rip!

unless you built a brace for them the ceiling will hang down.

Not to mention it might transfer more noise thru the body.

What ever you do... if you rid yourself of that annoying crackle in the speaker, let me know. If it were not for all the wind noise, I would have done insane already. I even replaced those speakers with some eclipse speakers and it still crackles... must be the factory radio, reception, wiring. My XM system even crackles... simple sucks!

You know I was looking at the back pillar. There is room for a 6x9 speaker. Punch makes some pretty good ones... I dont know, is rockford fosgate (sp?) any good? I have seen some of those too. I am sure it will push more sound than the four incher in there now.

Yeah, mine crackle too. I mounted a fire extinguisher next to the driver's side rear speaker. And a 1st AID kit on the inside of the back door.

Just put some good speakers in there. Eclipse makes a nice set that fits right in the factory hole, sounds great with stock power and doesnt look like crap. IMHO, adding 6x9s etc.. just makes the truck look like redneck junk, and mounting in the cargo baskets?? Im sure that would be extremely pleasant for backseat occupants.
The accoustics arent really too bad, Im really happy with my set up and all Ive done is add a little bump and put some upgraded speakers in... Its a lot cheaper and it sounds better.
