Default Subwoofer Install

I was wondering if anyone could provide any useful information on install subwoofers in your Land Rover.

Any information you have specific to just subwoofers or specific to a 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2.

The Subs I bought are

Two (2) 12" 800W DVC and are 4 OHM

and the AMP I bought is

1600W Mono Bridgeable MOSFET Amplifier

How would I go about wiring the subs to the amp and the amp to the radio?

Should I purchase an upgraded deck?
Should I also update my other speakers?
What about my battery? (Do I need to upgrade to a Dual Battery Setup?)

Would this be correct?

Cheers!

Do you have any experience with this kinda stuff?

Do you just need to know how to hook the subs up? or Are you looking for information on running power to the amps also?

it's pretty simple.. in your engine compartment passenger side centerways on the firewall remove plug and run a hot wire from your battery to your cargo space under the carpet. you can have it run out where your back seats lift up. also in that area there are plenty of bolts witch to attatch your ground for the amp. at the same time your running your hot wire run a remote wire from your ignition, catch it behind your radio. to get the signal easist way without tampering with your radio harness is to open the sub enclouser on the rear cargo door fish two, two pair cables through the rubber hose that leads from the side panel to the door and solder them to the speakers run them through the side panels and under the carpet to where you have the rest of the wires. get a speaker output to line output converter, from there you hook your rca cables to your amp and voila your done. crank your radio bout midways and adjust the pots on the converter till the sound is clear for more or less gain. once that is done turn your radio to your normal listening level and then adjust the gain on the amp until it suits your taste.

First I will start with running power to the amp. I would highly suggest you go out and by a wiring kit as you will need the large gauge wire, various connectors and inline fuse.

First run the large gauge (2-4) power wire from the pos battery terminal to the inline fuse that should be mounted somewhere in the engine compartment. I choose to mount mine on the passengers side firewall as there is a ton of room there, it is easily hidden, and there is a great point to pass the wire into the cabin.

From the other end of the inline I ran mine through the rubber cover into the cabin. From there run it under the carpet. The disco II carpet is in three sections. Pass the wire under the first two and bring it up under the rear seats where the second and third section over lap. This will make for a clean install and hide all the wires. Connect the pos wire to the 12 volt terminal on your amp.

Now for the ground wire. I ran mine to a bolt under the passenger seat, again it is easily hidden so it made for a clean install. Ran ground to ground terminal on amp.

Now for the signal wires coming from the radio.

Although you dont need a aftermarket radio to hook subs up it will make for a much nicer/clearer sound and make the install much easier. On most aftermarket radios they come with RCA outputs. Alls you need to do is get a good set of audio RCA cables and run them to the amp and plug them into the left and right input terminals on the amp.

The last wire you need to run from the amp is the signal wire that tells the amp to turn on and off with the radio. This is usually a blue wire. Again if you have an aftermarket radio there should already a blue lead for the signal wire.

As for the stock speakers you dont have to upgrade them but like anything else it will make for a much nicer sound. Especially if you use an aftermarket amp to power them also, but that a shit load more work than just hooking up the subs.

I hooked my remote turn on to the antenna amplifier on the right window. You have to remove the upper trim, but it isn't that bad. I got power like they said and originally used a line out converter from the rear door speakers.

Need more info about your amp and subs

The subs. Pair of dual4s. They can be wired at 4 ohms (as per your picture above) or parrallel wired to 1ohm. Parrallel is wiring all the -ves together and vice versa with the +ves.

800w means nothing. Ignore any rating that doesn't have 'rms' after it

Now the amp. Need to know if it's 2ohm or 1ohm stable. Check the specs, should say something like "200rms at 2ohms" or "300rms at 1ohm". Unfortunately I'm guessing it won't do 1600w or anywhere near that.

Please don't follow this advice, you're likely to fry the subs.

The subs are 400W RMS each.
The amp is
1 x 800 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohm
1 x 1000 Watts RMS @ 2 Ohm

wire it up just like that picture in your first post so it cannot overpower the subs. It really sucks when that happens.
