Default Suspension setup ... need help !

So my air suspension on my 94 Range Rover LWB is now dead, so I want to lift my truck (yeah !!!!) I am looking for a 2" lift, I am using the RR as my daily driver. I've read many things on the forum and on the net about suspension setups for RRC, but I still need your help ! I am between 2½ setups ....

- OME 2" springs and OME shocks. I've read that they are a little bit harsh on the road because of the stiffer springs, so what springs should I get ? I've got no heavy bumper or winch (for now) and there are many applications to choose ... Can anyone tell me how the OME setup feels on a normal road (bumps, potholes, handling, ...) ?

- Big Blue 2" springs and ProComp ES3000 shocks. A much more smooth ride, and more suspension travel in off road condition than the OME setup, that's what I've read. But how smooth is it (like rolling over every corner of the street ...) ? Anybody have a real time experience on the road ?

Also, with 2" Big Blue springs, what is going to be the difference if I use ES3000 shocks or ES9000 shocks ?

Thanks for your help !!!

Well, how much do you load up your truck when you go out on the trail? If you load it up, go with something a little stiffer - I think DAP sells BB's with different spring loads too. I have OME right now but I'd love to give some 3" BB's a try and see how they compare.

I just finished with install of the BBs. I could not be happier. Springs are firm but not harsh... I guess smooth ride is the best description... certianly not mush.

I loaded it down with 500 lbs of corn and with a friend of mine standing on the rear spare to load the feeders... I barely saw any rear squat to it. HUGE difference over the stock springs.

From experience, my RTE 2" Lift springs and Pro Comp ES9000 shocks from DAP, are in my book, a very good lift and great ride quality, on and off road.

I have the same vehicle as you do, and you will like how much lift you'd get from my setup I have, IMO.

Ditto with my RTE springs, I didn't think that it would hold up a crap ton of weight on the rear, I loaded with 500+ lbs., and no squatage.

Plus I just recently towed a 4000 lb. Jeep Wrangler (heavy som' bitch) with tow dolly, and it wasn't squating at all either!

That's no longer true- that was the case many years ago with most aftermarket springs. Even the early RTE's had that problem. All the suggestions so far are good. The main difference is the rates and heights- Your LWB probably was originally an air suspended, so it doesn't have the load level unit. What happens then is that you get slightly less lift when comparing the same spring against a RRC that has the load level unit.

The ES3K shock is more of a stock/MD version, the ES9K is quite a bit firmer- but if you go 3" you might need the more aggressive valving to control the stiffer rated springs.

I'm not loading the truck that much while off-roading ... All basic stuff plus light equipement ... But one thing that I did not mention, I must tow my 2400 lbs race car (+ trailer) sometimes .... Is that going to make a difference on the road for the springs ?

What advantages does the RTE springs have over the BB ? Or they are almost the same ... ?

As for the shocks, I'll probably go with the 9000 ! But I still need to choose the rate of the springs ....

Thanks !

BTW RageRover, I think this setup gave you a little bit more than a 2" lift ... no ?!?!?! What spring rate do you have ?

For a sub-3" lift, OME is the best in my book. Above 3", RTE takes the cake.

I managed to haul a 4000 lb. Jeep YJ a good 130 some miles and had no sagging what so ever, then again the weight was distributed over a dolly.

The truck was perfectly capable of handling the weight though.
