As some of you may or may not already know, I started a 4x4 accessory .com business not too long ago - www.terratrekker.com . So my main goal is to bring you guys what you want and need, when you need it. I also want to use my money wisely...
So I ask you now. What are the majority of you guys needing?
?? Should you guys be needing Winches or Raised Air Intakes (Snorkels), group buys are an option, so keep that tid bit in mind.

I think there's already a few companies that have a lock on the bumpers/sliders/suspension/etc market. We all know who they are and they have done a great job of delivering their high quality products to the Rover market.
I would suggest recovery gear (straps, winches, come-alongs, etc,, especially hard-to-get stuff from the UK & OZ, but also basic stuff like straps & etc),,,,, lighting,,,, gear directly related to Rovers: ie: Mag-lights and axes with mounting brackets,,, roof racks,,, Jerry Cans,,,Shovels,,,,broad selection of cool decals (team up with someone in the UK on this),,, wheels,,,, and commonly needed spares. In other words, non-bolt-on gear that is Rover-specific in both sizes & applications. Read through the various forums to see what folks are asking about (demand) and provide not only the product (supply) but also the ideas, the directions, and the options. Make it EASY for someone to use your site & determine what they want. When you find a new product, hype it on your site--- even if it's non-Rover-specific (camping gear, knives, cooking gear, etc). Given roughly the same price, I would rather spend my money with a Rover-specific vendor that supports the community. Also- get your name out there: support the Rover scene. It's often inexpensive but reaches your target audience. Additionally..... make sure your site is as user-friendly as possible. Many of the Rover/vendor sites out there simply suck. Putting up a good site is a competitive advantage. Finally: HAVE the inventory (if you can afford it). Someone looking for a specific wheel or what-have-you will buy from you if he can get it within a few days, rather than a few weeks or months.

JC; to keep your overhead as low as possible, arrange vendor/wholesaler relationships with companies larger than yourself for the heavy and well developed items. Then dropship everything you can. This will afford you a savings of less overhead, storage space,; and the ability to pass those savings onto others down the line. I agree that the bumper market is locked down, but my idea is maybe stock or ship some of the other cheaper items. I.E. Rocksliders. You can carry for RTE, Pangolin, SafariGard, etc. Give your customers choices. Also try to be a stocking dealer for SlickRock fabrication. Now that they have released DII swaybar disconnects; there's availability on a hot ticket item. Stay with your stocking on small, easily storable, easily shippable items. Recovery gear, Lights, and lighting accessories. Check with all4wheelsgear, in the UK. I was going to become a US distributor for them, but could not get the expenditure past the Financial department. (you know who, lol) They were excited because the shipping is ridiculous. But if you could bring palletloads over, you could drop down pricing, and another save for your customers. You need to check their website, little brother. They offer some great stuff, not made in mass by stateside suppliers. Bring over Mach 5 wheels for P38's and DII's. Get stuff the other regulars don't already carry. That way you won't just be another one...
Good luck. I hope it goes well for you. |

Maybe carry some Rover specific tools as well as the some more common tools we use.
Air filters- both paper and K & N type. Oil filters Recovery gear-as mentioned: straps, d-rings, shackles, shovels, axes, mounting brackets... Maintenance items like belts and hoses... Links to other sites, ie. Land Rovers, camping, hunting/ fishing, (parts/ accessories you can't, won't, or have no desire to stock or deal with) Good luck
