Default Winch Mount

Anyone herad of Bearmach on this side of the pond? They have a chassis mount winch plate for Warn 8k winches I am interested in.

Has anyone dealt with them over here?

Has anyone seen an US based winchplate for Warn? I always see the white RRC from texasrovers that has the winch mounted all hidden away....jealous I am....

Thanks all for the thoughts and responses in advance!

I bought one many moons ago for my Rangie. I ended up selling it 'cause it was too "hidden". We have a lot of mud on the east coast and I didn't think it was a good idea to have such a low winch mount. Other than that they are fine.

Steve (at DAP) sells them here in the US.

Bearmach is the world's largest supplier of Land Rover parts and accessories and holds the M.O.D. contracts to support all the M.O.D. Rovers - DAP is the Bearmach distributor for North America.
The hidden winch mount does have that one draw back that John mentioned- if you stuff the front end into deep goo, you have to work to get to the winch. For occaisional use or if you aren't a mud bogger, it works well and is a very popular unit. Literally hundreds of them in the USA.

I emailed Bearmach (what did I know, asked them direct) and DAP responded, which is awesome.....

I have been going back and forth with new bumper or hitch mount or whatever....I am new and am trying (for my wife and pending baby sake) to not bury the RRC soon. Trying to learn and progress and increase the skills.

However, we will be going back roads camping and I am not looking forward to being all the way out with no winch (especially by ourselves). I thought this was great and tucked away because I do have to go to Oakland once and a while...

Anyway, if I am mudding and getting stuck so deep I can't see the grille, one of you guys videoing the run would catch my strap an give me a pull I hope...

Otherwise, who am I buying the beer for?

Ok, 2nd question.

Anyone got one of these DAP/Bearmach mounts for their winch. DAP says it mounts between the frame rails and therfore you cant use a stock brushguard because they occupt the "same space". So if someone could send me a pic of one installed, I may just break out the wlder and make a "narrow" version to compensate for that 1/2 inch difference and mount it anyway...

I too have a question on this topic..

Do you guys think that this would work on a P38? Because I wanted to do this but I thought I would have to end up making it custom.. But if I can just buy and install that would be sweet. But then again I was looking for a good winter project..

Sorry to say, I think you have to go custom....they dont advertise one for your year If you have a 4.0/4.6 that is...(I am guessing from the nose)

But I cant imagnie it is too difficult. Find mounting points for the frame, make a mounting plate for the winch of choice and weld on some brackets to bolt to the frame. In your case, you need to make sure you have the room for the winch up there and after that, you are in my spot with the brush guard....making it narrow enough to fit and wide enough for the winch....

Again, if anyone can send a picture of one....I would love to peak at it. I may be able to buy one, chop it narrower and then reweld it back...

What about just going with the winch tray that bolts to the existing stock bumper? I think it is a LR part though and may be a bit pricey.

Alrigh, I dont mind custom making one. But I know what you mean by finding a small enough winch. heres the smallest 9k lb I can find so far: http://www.milemarker.com/e-winch9.html

And thanks for suggestion Badger, but I think I know the one your talking about and its not exactly the most.. hidden.. lol. You mean this one right? : http://www.rangerovers.net/outfittin...ctorybump.html

I don't even know if I want to put a winch on my D1, but if I do I'll be sorely tempted to put a receiver hitch in the front and get one mounted on a basket that I can just hookup and plug in when I go wheeling and leave off the rest of the time. Plus would be then I can wire to the back and use the winch on either end. I never had anyone try and rip off the one on the D2, but it was buried in an ARB so I assume they probably figured it was too much work.

I was thinking about doing that too, but then I just decided I wanted it to always be there and hidden.
