Default Hello! I just bought a 98 Disco! San Diego.

Sup You Guys!!
I registered about a week or so ago. And Im now the proud owner of a red rover! I bought the Misses a 98 LE last night. Valentines came early. Got an ok deal I think. (Or I hope) 7200. with 109K mi on the clock. I have been a Subaru Guy for a few years (Bought four in 2004) But now I picked up a jeep and the Disco after selling my STi. I still own one Subaru its a beater.

I hope to learn from you guys. We are getting ready to head out to the anzaborrego desert soon to test out the Disco, and for a few days of camping.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Ill post some Pics as soon as I find the USB-cable for my Digi.
Its nice that the Disco has Dif-Lock, my Jeep doesn't... Yet
I have a few questions.
  1. What kind of Mileage should I expect to get.
  2. Do you guys know of a place where I could find an "Owners Manual" and a "Repair Maunal"?
  3. I also never received a "Keyless entry Remote" as I bought from a Private Party.

If So are these available for a reasonable price?
I will be heading out htis weekend for a tank of sand and rocks. Send Me a PM If you would like to Cruise along with Our RedRover and Kids.
DAMN My STi was fun.

Welcome to the forum!

A couple answers.

1. Mileage - Anywhere from 10-20mpg .. if you lift it/bigger tires.. you'll get less.. out of a stock, well maintained disco, driven lightly [no flooring it!] you can expect around 17 or so on the highway... its very variable, and changes between discos.
2. Owners manual, your best bet is to try Ebay.. but you can also find a CD called the RAVE CD.. which is what technicians use to work on the trucks.. This was never released to the public, so you have to find a bootleg copy.. www.tidewaterrovers.com will hook you up with a free copy if you give them a call.
3. I think the only way about this is to buy a blank controller off of EBay, and have the dealership program it, usually costs about $100 to get it programmed. If you click up top of here on "product reviews", I remember that Serg did a review on a third-party.. no clue about that tho.

Mine's a '02 D2 SE and I get less than 15mpg....

went full tank from here to Vegas and had to fill her on Sloan...about 20/30 miles before the Strip...from San Diego to Vegas is roughly 330 miles if I am not mistaken...

and hey when you said "Keyless" is it the same type with the Mercedes'?

Brokenneck, I'll be happy to go this weekend to Anza but are you planning to stay the night ? and how many trucks will be there ?

Don't forget the San Diego Club. www.lrcsd.com/
Good group of people, take a fair number of trips.
You might also want to join the Yahoo Rover group for Southern Ca,
autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/socalrovers/ they are a real fun group to join up with.
Take care,
Mike J.

I am up In Irvine and have a copy of the CD if you need one. I get to SD about once every two weeks but will be moving there this summer. Would be cool to get a trip together. I may be down there this Sat night if you want to meet and get a beverage, or just a copy of the CD. Probably Pacific Beach. Although I have no idea where to park as the rig doesn't fit in garages!! Ah well...
Give me a shout if you want a copy
