I really don't understand why your not allowed to drive on beaches in some states in Australia and l guess anywhere else in the world.
I do understand why they don't want you driving across the dunes at the back of the beach but all that means is providing a designated entry and exit points to the beach. Glad l now live in WA where beach driving outside metropolitan beaches is allowed and you can drive for miles on white sand and pick your ocean picnic or surf fishing spot. When l lived in Victoria which completely banned all beach and dune driving in the 1980's, l was near the 90 mile beach, the local Yarram surf living saving club had access point to the beach to drag their surf rescue boats in and out of the water. I thought charge $10 a car for the day and allow people to drive up and down the 90 miles of beach with excessive fines if you were caught in the dunes would have been a good money raiser and cause virtually no damage to the foreshore. |

Daytona and New Smyrna beaches, some sections on Sand Key. Can't do it during turtle hatching season - starts in May to October I think.

It is usually tied to an environmental issue wether the beach is allowed to be drived on or not... at least that is the case here in ONtario..... we have a lot of dunes that are protected as the contain many rare to this area plants and animals... the other thing is the trucks cause erosion to be faster as your tires rip up the grasses and damage the thatch in the soil, aloowing the sand to be blown away..... (and no I am not a hard core environmentalist, but I did do a lot of research on dunes and sand structures both in College and while I was working for the university...)

where i live in jersey most beaches are private owned, but no matter what the city workers are allowed on, nd since the city pays me. i jus drive through the peoples yards, or a paved path if there is one (i only no of one paved path) nd there arent many dunes, but the few we have are protected (kinda) private property ones arent from people walking, or me. but one lady didnt like surfers walking on her dunes, so she had a constrution crew dig the sand out to make a 5-8 foot cliff, nd the city fined her 100 grand nd she also had to pay to have it all replaced
which i was happy about, because i hated running up the cliff, nd it really messed up the beach, nd as one of the few places in jersey that hasn't nd refuses to dredge the beaches, it is one of the few beaches left with surf nd sea life near shore. dont worry, i do support envirormental protection, my mom work for "fire wise" wild fire control stuff. nd for the dumb people, smokey the bear is her boss. but luckling he is smarter now, nd understands what happens when stuff doesnt burn every couple of years. |
