Smile Moving to Marietta, GA area; looking for tips

Good afternoon/evening all,

Thanks to everyone's favorite uncle, my wife and I will be relocating to the Marietta area from sunny SoCal and we're looking for a few tips. Are there any rover shops to avoid or any that deliver outstanding service? We've been spoiled living out here in San Diego with the Rover Group (amazing customer service and techs ), we're hoping to find a shop who can fill the void. Also looking for some local info such as legitimate wheeling spots, areas of town to stay out of and last but not least, great places to eat.

Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

I like LR Northpoint, its probably a good 30 min. away from Marietta. There are several places around that I have heard good things about, but none that I have been to yet for service.

If you go up 575 North, there is a cool place called Amicalola Falls. Georgia State Parks - Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge
This is a cool place to hike and do some wheeling. Its nothing serious, pretty light, but fun.

As far as local places to wheel, eh, not too many (that i'm aware of.) Going up to north-GA might be your best bet.

As far as food, Marietta Square has some really good places to eat, not chain restaurants. If you go five min. up the road to Kennesaw, there is the Town Center Mall area, with a ton of places to eat. None that really stand out, just standard Chili's, On the Border, etc.

Where exactly in Marietta will you be moving to? I'm sure we could have a meet and greet once you guys get settled. If you need any help moving, etc, shoot me a PM.

Hope this helps.

We're actually looking in the Acworth/Kennesaw area for houses right now. I will be stationed at the Air Force base in Marietta so we're trying to stay fairly close to there. Thanks for the tip on LR Northpoint, I'll look them up when we get into town. I will definitely shoot you a PM when we get settled in.

Here is my experience with Northpoint. In about 2000 I purchased a 96 DI with a warranty. After about six months of acceptable service from Northpoint, I developed a miss in the engine. NP spent some time with it and then said that I needed an entire new engine - no worries because it was all covered by my warranty.

That just did not sound right so I took it to an indy. He took a look at it and said that it needed plugs and wires. He did the work and it completely cured the problem. I drove that car until about 2007 when a wreck totaled it.

So I have not since then had good feelings about Northpoint. I can however recommend my indy - Road Britannia, Neal Dewis, 404-266-1699; he is located on Roswell Rd (in Buckhead) about 50 yards north of its intersection with West Paces Ferry. Good guy.

If you feel you must go to a dealer, there is Buckhead Land Rover at Pharr Rd and Piedmont (again in Buckhead). They are pretty money hungry to me and never cut you a break.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at NP. I read in another one of your posts by that guy off West Paces, i'm gonna use him if I need to in the future

Default Welcome to Atlanta

The Shop is a great shop, a little bit of a drive from where you'll be but worth it. There is some good wheeling within 2-3 hours of Atlanta. It varies and changes frequently unlike Southern California which doesn't get much rain, the rain and use changes the trail systems pretty fast. A moderate trail that you might take this weekend may be very interesting in anywhere from 6 months to a year depending how much use it sees. A good resource for info and other Rover Junkies is SOLAROS and is local to Atlanta. You can give me a call if you want to wheel or just hang out.

I have had nothing, but good experiences from them. The owner Luke is a good guy and is straight forward and he will take you in the shop and show you the problem. They also now have a new facility and have junk Rovers to use for certain parts.

Also, I have seen your guys fabrication and it is really good, but I just do not have the money. I need a lift and locker first.

The Shop in Norcross is good.

Welcome to the ATL area. I live in Braselton which is near Gainesville. Gainesville is like the Marietta of the Northeast Atlanta area. I used to live in the Kennesaw/Marietta area near Macland Rd. when I was a kid.
