Default ROAV Spring Rally May 18-20

Look forward to seeing many of you there. If you have not pre-registered and/or reserved a space at the campsite, now's the time!

Registration form:
http://www.roav.org/NewROAV/spring/spring.html

More info:
http://roav.org/forum/index.php?topic=398.0

For those not registered on the ROAV forum, here's the text of the link:

Well, the Spring Rally is almost upon us. Having spent several weekends testing out the trails at Crozet, I think it's safe to say we're going to have a great time. New trails have been added, most of which have by-passes for near-stock vehicles. Hope everyone can make it.

For those planning on wheeling, and particularly those planning on testing their limits, I would suggest bringing (at least) the following:

- 2 D-shackles
- heavy duty work gloves (for handling winches & moving rocks)
- off-road tow strap (avoid store-bought straps with sewn-in hooks)
- ratchet straps / cargo tie-downs (to keep gear from rolling around your truck)
- a functional jack (bottle jack is fine, there will be plenty of hi-lifts on-hand)
- spare drive-train parts: axles, CVs, and tie rods tend to suffer the most on the rocks
- full-sized spare tire
- spare fluids, including gear oil
- cooler with food & plenty of water

Additionally, all of those running trails should be equipped with solid recovery points front & rear. Expect to winch or be strapped.

Those wanting to run the tougher trails may also want to have a jack-stand, adequate under-carriage protection, & rock sliders. Extra equipment & spares can be left at the field when running the trails to lighten the load.

For those in stock or near-stock rigs, and/or those new to four-wheeling in their Land Rovers= Congratulations!! Crozet offers some of the best four-wheeling in the state! There are by-passes to the obstacles and trails are designated by degree of difficulty. I have seen many stockish rigs run these trails, including Jeep Liberties, which are far less adept at off-roading than your Land Rover. However, it is important to note the element of rish that is a part of our hobby, and a part that adds to the fun. Most importantly, I would ask that everyone bring their positive outlook! There will be plenty of experienced drivers and semi-pro mechanics on hand to assist in the event of damage. Everyone will have the opportunity to walk the trails before-hand, and there will be no pressure to tackle anything discomforting. Hopefully we'll get some big-rigs on the harder trails - - four wheeling is as fun to watch as it is to participate in.

Look forward to seeing you there!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------For those who would rather not run the Crozet trails, there will be a side-trip to a more basic & scenic trail on Saturday. The scenic ride will include a winery tour Saturday afternoon.

While all are welcome to run the trails at Crozet, or even to spectate, the scenic trip will be an available option for those who would prefer to stay away from the rocks.

Camping will be at the Misty Mountain Campground in Crozet. Anyone who plans on attending AND wishes to camp needs to contact the campground directly, tell them you are with the Rover Owners Association of Virginia for that weekend and they will take your space reservation. Unlike in past years, their policy is to collect from each camper individually, so your registration fee for 2007 does not include your campsite.

http://www.mistycamp.com/

THE CAMPGROUND IS NOT TAKING EVENT REGISTRATIONS

There are also a number of hotels, etc in the area as it is right off of I-64 in case anyone would rather rough it in comfort

The campground will be our main basecamp, where we will have the RTI ramp and Teeter Totter as well as our Saturday night meal. The offroad park is about 7 miles away.

Registration will be $65.00, with the only extra fees being extra meals for Saturday night at $10.00 each, and extra vehicle fees of $25.00

Please bear with us on the registration form - as much as I hate to use the term 'technical difficulties' it seems to fit

Please contact Steven (SCSL) or myself if you have any questions

BUMP!

Less than 2 weeks to go. If you haven't registered yet, please note the camp ground is filling up fast. If you plan to stay at a hotel or rent a cabin, you are not the only one.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible, whether you are wheeling Crozet or taking the scenic routes--- all are welcome!

Hoping for a big LRO showing! Even if you have never been to a Rover event before, come out & meet your fellow RoverHeads!
