Pictures from the 1999 Columbus Day Rally at Eagle Rock. The photos were obtained from the Flatland Rover Society website. If anyone has a problem with me posting them... please let me know. Neat little Mog came along to the event in ’99 also.

Quick update –
The past few weekends I have pre-run 12 plus miles of trails around Eagle Rock. I would consider them to be average to just above average in difficulty. I have driven them all in my Series truck in 4-Low and at times I had the rear diff locked. I believe that any of the terrain could be driven in a stock Rover with proper spotting and by moving a few rocks around. There are several sections of rocky ledges that would present problems for trucks with side steps or running boards as well as low hanging front air dams. I don’t want to discourage anyone from going on any of the trails, I just want to give you an idea of what you can expect. The biggest obstacles are rock ledges where rainwater run-off has exposed the limestone bedrock. Slow and steady with a decent spotter is the key. Coil sprung vehicles will have no problems with ample amounts of axel articulation. Leaf sprung vehicles will be left with a front or rear corner hanging in the air briefly. The trails are all numbered and marked and are most often used by four-wheelers/ATVs. Trails are narrow in some areas and you can expect a few brush scratches. We have had no rain in the month of September so the mud holes are low and can be easily navigated. I look forward to renewing old Rover acquaintances and meeting new folks. ![]() David

Southern Missouri has been extremely dry the past couple of months, however there has not been an open fire ban issued. Firewood at the campsite is limited to fallen dead wood. This time of the year it has been picked over by summer campers. I will bring some firewood and some can be collected on the trails.
Looks like fantastic camping weather this weekend. With highs in the lower 70’s and lows in the mid 50’s. There is a slight chance of rain Friday morning and early afternoon – no rain in the forecast the rest of the weekend. Make your final fuel stop in Cassville, Aurora, or Seligman. Eagle Rock doesn’t have a gas station or convenience store. Cassville is about 14 miles north of Eagle Rock and has all the standard fast food and pizza joints. For GPS users - the entrance to Eagle Rock Campground in WGS84 datum N 36*31.731 W093*43.715 As you get close to the campground and for the weekend keep your CB on Channel 13 and/or your FRS on Channel 6. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best in this area – my cell number is 417-343-3683 if you want to contact me. If you can’t make it down Friday, we will be gathering at 10:00am Saturday morning at the campground to head out for the trails. The number of vehicles and the driving pace will determine when we break for lunch. Try to make arrangements to bring lunch with you on Saturday. We’ll be back in camp for the evening meal Saturday night. Now – top off the fluids – pack up the camp gear – and head for the Ozark Mountains. See you this weekend. David ![]()
