Bird, I live there but work in Germany for the time being. I hope to be back sometime late next year. I just got a 96 D1 that I'll ship and hope to find a way to bring my Volvo too. We're down near the airport. Miss the island lifestyle...

So when was the last time you were here? Things have changed allot in the last year. The gass price here is out of sight. The gas is over $3.85 and will go up again next week. So much for the gas cap helping us. So are you in the military?
I'm new to the Land Rover world but I've lived on Oahu for the past 3 years. I recently bought a '96 Disco SE7 from a Col. in the Marine Corps and so far I love it. All stock so far, but I've got ambitions to lift it (just a little). I agree there's not many places to off-road around here, have you been up to Peacock Flats yet? I'm curious how tough it is.
I'll be here for another year until the Coast Guard moves me; probably to the Tampa Bay area.
I'm active duty Navy and in Germany since Nov '03. I should be done here in '06 and hopefully back to Oahu. We've been on the island since '96 and was there for 5 years in the mid-late 80's. The plan is to retire there in the next couple of years and enjoy the lifestyle. I'm in the process of purchasing the Disco 1 and these sites are invaluable. We live across from the airport for the time being. My wife and daughter run a courier service on the island and ship a box on the United red-eye six days a week so it's convenient for her to be close. I get back at least once a year in my travels but spend most of the time in Germany or the sand.

Never been to Peacock Flats. I just did some light off road in the sand at Barbers Point. Got my truck stuck in the sand so deep that the frame was on the sand. I had a local guy pull me out with his Toyota 4 Runner. I did every thing wrong on that trip. I did some light off road in the sand at the MCB (before they closed off the HUMMER corse) and Bellows AF. let me know if you want to go find a trail some time.
New member here, lived in Hawaii (Waipio first, now Ewa Beach) for 8 years, in Iraq now. Bought a 99' Disco I a couple weeks ago and plan to do the OME suspension and throw on a good set of wheels/tires. Wife is having problems finding replacement parts for a decent price on island, any tips on where to look?
Good to see a few land rover getting real use here in Hawaii, I have a 2000 D II. From Wyoming here for school, wish we had better trails on Oahu, but oh well. Would be nice to get a club started if we all could find the time, I know I'm busy.

You won't find anything on the island. With my experience at shops on Oahu, I generally go to the dealer for anything fairly new. They're a little more responsible after they inevitably screw it up. I don't know any good european/what ever a discovery is considered repair shops. The only shops I found that are any good, I had to be introduced to the owner by a local friend before time could be found for my car. After that they hardly ask for money. WIthout that though.. "i'm busy call back next week"
You can try European auto specialists. they're in the book.
I do nearly no shopping here. Costco and internet for me. I realize she isn't going to replace a timing chain or something. But I do anything I can, myself.

Plenty of Discoveries and Range Rovers on he island. almost all of them "rollin on dubs". Oahu is about the bling.
There is one 4x4 spot out leeward. You need a permit to get on, its military owned trail. But its pretty tough along a lot of it. Not something on which to take a range rover.
If you're not familiar .. google/wiki peacock flats.
Or check out the youtube vids on it.
We used to go wheeling at the end of the island out mokoleia. But the bird sanctuary got in the way and now I hear they're cracking down on people wheeling out there.
used to look like a 4x4 park a few years ago. But now they're pushing boulders up to block it off and the fence has been re-erected. Used to love taking my KLR out there.. I lived right down the road for a few years.
I have access to some private land, but my days of wheelin for the sake of wheelin are over. I have to be doing it to get somewhere. Not just to break my truck and muddy up trails. I can break my truck in my driveway
Hey guys, I'm a new RR owner (I'm purchasing a 95 RR LWB, 93,000Miles on 5/22) I will be in Honolulu on 5/20. Glad to see there are some forum members over there. Any advice on owning one out there, as opposed to owning one on main land? I am new to Rovers, and am looking forward to the experience, albeit the mechanical aspect, which hopefully I will be able to tackle by myself with some care. The one I am buying is in great condition now, so hopefully things will go well (fingers crossed). Thanks again, and looking forward to hearing from you.
