just finished up my new cargo boxes to fit into my 2004 D2 SE7. There 2 boxes of equal size, i made 2 boxes rather than one big platform so they can be easily removed and placed on my hannibal rack or put in my garage so i can use my jump seats. The boxes were made of 3/4" MDF board, wrapped in felt, then canvas, used some nice door hinges, made latches from some defender parts i had laying around, and i covered up our staple seams on the canvas with a 3,333lb tow strap (with hooks, which is why i chopped it up). Also added LR emblems to add the classy touch
the boxes can easily hold the weight of me (I weigh just over 200lbs), and can hold all my recovery gear in one box.
some pictures are in the mid-stages of the boxes, the carpeted ones are the final product. i will get better pics later.
canvas was cheap, just walmart stuff, the same material (exactly) that i made the cargo liner out of. only the front half is canvas. the back half is all black, split up by the tow strap we mounted as a edging
very nice job dude! looks great! i know how you feel without the stock cargo boxes.........from one SE7 to another
the seats are nice, but i dont use them very much (I do still use them though), i would take them out, however I do not have any place to store them where I know they wouldn't get damaged. These boxes will do just fine for me, I may line the bottom's with a black tarp material so if water/liquids do leak inside the box it won't get ruined.
Very nice. Here I've been shopping various carpets the last couple weeks for a close match to factory, I never thought about just using canvas... I like this idea better.

How are they secured while they are in use?
they aren't. chris doesn't really go offroad, so no need to strap them down.
thanks michaels lol, well anyways, they are pretty damn heavy when i have my tools in them. before i installed the latch yesterday the damn doors kept flying open when i was bouncing around in the dried up mud beds in the national forest down by the glades. unless they are empty, I lay the truck on its side, or roll the damn thing they won't go anywhere. I can always run ratchet tie downs to the factory tie down eyes in the carpets.
