Default Michelle's Rover at the strip

Here are a couple of pictures of Michelle racing her Land Rover at the drag strip here. Also, a couple of you Tube videos. She got runner up one night in street class Although you need to get a RHD version driving smiley They have one at the GunsNRovers board.

He mentioned it in his member introductions and Stolen asked to see some pics, so here he is showing us.

Of course I pictured it going just a little faster for some reason.

As long as people are having fun........I guess.

Oh yeah, we have a great time. Last time she went some of her students mentioned seeing her there. We have met a bunch of people we would not have met otherwise. The thing about bracket racing is that it is a game of consistency and skill. Whatever time you dial you had better run right on it. When she ran the Subaru there was a 12 second dial in difference and it was a close race, she dialed 25.00, he dialed 13.00.

The Rover also comes in handy when I do things like break an axle shaft, break several spider gear teeth, break a piece inside the sure grip and bend the axle case in the Road Runner and we have to get the Road Runner home the mile up our dirt road. Hooked up a tow strap, she pulled back the red lever and up we went.

If you want fast here are a couple more youtubes, not of the Rover but of the RR (I redlit both times)

YouTube - St Croix Race Track 1/25/08
YouTube - St Croix Race Track 1/25/08

Some pics of the blue Rover's frame over attached. The first one is with my friend who came down to help with the frame swap. He, mostly by himself, got the old body off the old frame, got the driveline mostly onto the new chassis and fit the rear tub. We didn't have the new bulkhead (technically, a rebuilt and galvanized one)fitted at the time of these pictures. You can tell from the pictures why we did not bother to rebuild our bulkhead, not only wast it rusted it was bent from old accident damage, so we went with another one from Ike Goss.

Plus I threw in some pictures of us using the 88 to collect air samples as part of a study of the effects of Sahara Dust as a contributing factor to disease of Coral Reefs. The collage is fun, I like Michelle winching the cable to skid the RR over when it wouldn't move due to the mud which was incredibly slippery as it was fill put down the day before and it rained, it was like WD-40 on ice due to teh clay in it. We collected the dust at Pt. Udall, the easternmost point of St. Croix. The road out there used to be better but then they ruined it by paving it, which as Rover people you will understand..

nice thanks for the pics. They just put in a AWD dyno near me, i may my 04 dynoed when I get home to see how much power I'm losing from the factory ratings, then i might do a seafoam, plugs and wires and see where i stand. I'm probably gonna run my rover at the local 1/8th on test and tune night to see where I stand. I've raced it 3 times on the street: nailed an older non-vtec civic with an intake/exhaust and a lancer oz- rally edition lol. good times, they never thought a stock 3 ton tank of an SUV could beat their "tuner cars" (fucking ricers)

now you sound like me in my allroad. of course I go after some bigger prey. no one expects to get beat by a wagon.

haha dude. 0-60 in 9.1 is bad, i raced an RX8 (still slow as fuck) but i had him up to 75 then he pulled 2 lengths and we let off. racing was my thing when i had the stang, i've got the rover now...but i still haven't lost my street racing bug. lol

I know the bug well. I hope to get the allroad on a drag strip this summer and hope to see it in the low 12s in the qtr. that wont be bad for a 4400lb wagon.

I dont want to think about what it would take to get the rover to that level.

better stick to bracket racing with the disco.

haha yeah, i'd need to drop about 2000lbs, build up the internals, run a 175shot and hope it can last a 1/4 mile haha. I've still got a procharger kit laying in my garage, anyone wants to design a bracket to retro-fit it to the Rover's 4.6 I'd be down lol, i gotta turn down the boost from 10 psi though (i think 5-7psi is plenty for some good clean fun)

that would be awesome. I would think 5-7psi would be plenty survivable for the 4.6 too.

FWIW, the little 2.7L in the allroad is now spiking to 22psi then tapering to about 20psi at redline.

nice. i ran 10psi on my 4.0L v6 in my stang, lasted a year as my daily driver/weekend warrior until it finally blew. with the proper tuning i bet these petrol rovers can do pretty decent under boost. i'd much rather have a roots style blower on my rover than a centrifugal, instant torque is better than waiting for a bit of spool (not nearly as bad a turbo lol) in the offroading game i would guess. haha a boulder isn't gonna wait for you're RPMs to catch up with your turbo.

very true. I gotta stop thinking about power mods on the rover, this might get me down a bad path.
