your plans sound rather exactly like mine.

Very interesting photos. Fun to watch Rovers playing instead of working.

I'd love to have you start a thread on your research/work down there in the islands. I dual majored in college in Marine Biology/Ecology. My thesis was in deep water coral polyp productivity, and I did research in Fiji with the Cousteau Society during two Project Ocean Search outings. Would love to know what you're up to down there.

I'm probably gonna run my rover at the local 1/8th on test and tune night to see where I stand. I've raced it 3 times on the street: nailed an older non-vtec civic with an intake/exhaust and a lancer oz- rally edition lol. good times, they never thought a stock 3 ton tank of an SUV could beat their "tuner cars" (fucking ricers)
you sound like me when I talk about my dodge diesel, But really why care so much about performance in landrover? It's not important and unless you go an get a LS1 or something like that to swap in, it's just a waste of money. The 4.6 is great as I use to have one a long time ago, but drag racing a disco? to each his own

speed will get you in trouble in a disco, maybe you should buy a cheap go-fast car to race and just use the disco for what it's for

speed will get me in trouble...how so? i mean i know it does, it always does, but i mean from a equipment standpoint, will shit break? the car isn't made for speed...take a tight shoulder going 5 over the speed limit and you're body roll will tell you that lol. the engine is made for torque, made for towing/offroading etc, not breaking a track's record e/t..i know that. but in an 1/8th mile run at a strip i doubt i will even trap 65mph... i don't even wanna try a 1/4 lol, too much stress on the car (weight plus the aerodynamic retardation makes it totally pointless, unsafe for the car and not fun)

why care about performance on a land rover? i couldn't give a damn about any power gains over 5hp they are hardly economical possible on a disco without buying a chip ($500) or digging into a motor (more $$$). but tuning a car up on a dyno...even a stock one, really can help a car...plus a dyno is always fun, keep it low key, realistic for traffic tuning and don't get greedy trying to get power and you're car and you will be happy. i'm not planning on blowing money for a dyno run, wait til they do a dyno day and do a run for like $30.

its a joke for speed, that kind of performance, and everything else related like that. but every car has its class/competition. you can still have fun "racing" a disco, even if that means just going 0-60.

haha I raced a honda civix DX with my 200k worn out 3.9l in my RRC, lost the race

didn't mean to attack you, but it seems like all that money for plugs and wires could go to usefull stuff(lift)

uhh, plugs are wires are a good addition/upgrade to any rover. regardless of its uses. trust me, i'd rather have a 2" OME lift than a nice ignition system, but its one of those things that need to be upgraded and replaced when the time comes. if i get some performance out of em great, but thats not really the purpose, its to make my engine run properly and last 200k miles lol

its all good

You are absolutely aright about it being important to have the basics correct before blowing money on lift kits and the such. The lift kit is great, but if the engine stalls because of fouled plugs and broken down wires where are you.

There is a rumour that a shop will open up a chassis dyno down here and I would put the 88 on it (the 109 is a diesel) and make sure that the air fuel ratios are correct etc. Too rich of a mixture costs you money in fuel and can lead to early wear of cylinder walls due to washing of oil. Too lean and you can burn pistons or valves.

As far as bracket racing, one of the points of it is that you can race anything. The local street class champion uses his wife's Ford Escape.

Now I agree, trying to get Michelle's 88 to run 11's is missing the point of the Rover, but going down and driving a better race than some guy in a blinged out Acura is satisfying.

Below are some more Rover pictures of what our road can look like sometimes. Remember, this is essentially our driveway, and the hairpin turn where the washout occurred is about 1/2 mile up, our house is another 1/2 mile, and where we will be building is another 1/2 mile from there. The guy in the yellow slicker is our landlord. We are building an off the grid house on the same hill farther up than where we currently live.

Darn it man. If that is what you call a washout in st. croix; Rovers are not optional, they are mandatory. That thing could swallow your Mopar.

that looks like one of those big sinkholes we get everynow and then in florida when the aquifers dry up and the top soil erodes away causing a collapse. that thing is legit lol

Man drag racing a stock series or a tank D2 is just plain senseless. Rover's are made for offroading not drag racing. Get a muscle car for that bro.
