i know a guy who lost all nerve feeling in his left arm from it when he had it in highschool.
Must have been Methanol poisoning. Comes from a rookie making shine. But, even then, with the highest levels of Methanol, permanent damage is unlikely.
You sure it was not Jake he was drinking?

That, for the most part, is a myth. Ethanol (alcohol) burns with a blue flame. Methanol (jet fuel) burns clear.
Not sure where the "yellow" flame comes from.... Gasoline burns yellow.....
Thing is, the moonshine you're going to buy is 99.9% of the time cut with distiled water. If you tried to drink shine right from the tap you would burn out the lining of your esophagus. So, doing a burn test on shine you bought would leave you disappointed because you would not get it to light.
Some shine is really "hot" or harsh. Other shine is smooth and mellow. This is the difference good shine and bad shine, for the most part. The more times the ethanol is run through the still, the more pure and mellow the shine gets. This also reduces the methanol (poison). Fruity shine is naturally more mellow.
Most people buy shine and mix it with fruit and call it "peach shine", "apple shine", etc..... this is bullshit - only rookies fall for this. Real fruit shine is made with real fruit in the mash. You can do a smell test to tell the difference; "fake" fruity shine smells like rubbing alcohol (although it can taste quite good).
