My daughter has pointed out that I need names for my Range Rovers. These things are important to her. When had the 1991 Classic and a Discovery, we just called them Range Rover and Discovery. Anyway I thought this would be a fun way to post a this photo as I have previously not put any pics of my Rovers online. So, submitted for your review, the attached photograh and brief biographies. Please recommend names. Nothing profane, please.
On the left, my 2000 4.6 HSE. Java Black over Light Stone interior. 69K Miles. Everything works, air suspension is neato. Work done to date: new shock absorbers, new tires. Work planned: fix leak that happens when I go through car washes, new headliner, tint windows, and miscellaneous cosmetic fixes. Other than that I don't plan to change anything on this one. She is lovely the way she is. On the right, my 1991 Classic. Professional repainted in original Land Rover Westminster Grey. Underbody is fully painted in rock resistant, heat tolerant paint. Windows tinted very dark. Interior is original grey leather. Just finished re-veneering all woodwork in South American Rosewood. 195K miles on original 3.9 motor. Original Range Rover 3 spoke wheels wrapped in TRXUS M/T tires. Old Man Emu suspension with lift. Safari Gard rock sliders. East Coast Rovers replacement rear bumper. CB Radio. Plans: To complete cosmetic repairs, re-dye leather. Going with charcoal with light grey piping. All vynil trim will be dyed to match. Amazingly the original headliner is still perfect but may replace with charcoal or light grey cloth to match seating. Pulling out all carpet and rhino-lining the floors in black colored rubberized paint. Rear loadspace area will be covered in diamond plate and eventually drawers and a refrigerator. On the mechanicals, front and rear lockers and 24 spline HD axles. Replace Borg Warner transfercase with a lockable, chaindriven Land Rover transfercase and equip with lower low range gearing. Eventually a rebuilt engine, probably a 4.6. Rebuild tranny at same time. Bigger brakes, upgrade suspension further. ARB front bumper and WARN 9000 winch. Roof rack, potentially integrated with a roll cage. Stereo system with CD/DVD and GPS. Snorkel. Thats the 5 year plan. Any other ideas?

Both those RR's are seriously well keep and good looking vehicles .
Now since I get naming rights (just kidding) the Black one I'd call 'Jet', and the Grey one I'd call 'granddad'. ![]()

OK so vote number 1 goes for 'Jet' and 'Grandad.' Let see what else people come up with if anything... these are sexy, automotive sculptures. I mean, what with being exhibited in Louvre and all, the Classic is practically a super model. Only, when I get done working on 'her,' 'she' will be a dangerous, aggresive beast too...

I love your classic!!!!!! That makes me want to paint mine in that color too, even though it's trail truck I want it to look nice
I have already started on the rhino lining the floors, makes sure you have no rust on the front floor boards cause it's a bitch to work with then. I say you call the classic "pimpin fresh" and the P38 "rick james"....... on a serious note the classic needs the name "ole grey" , and can you post more pics of that beautful classic? for me![]()

good stuff - keep em coming! all suggestions have been appreciated but i was rolling when i read 'rick james' and pimpin fresh. Thats good stuff. Especially once i get the P38 windows tinted... put some huge chrome wire wheels with spinners on it and low profile tires... in second thought maybe not :-)
the classical/egyptian and greek mythology references are interesting. got me thinking about Cerberus the hound of hell. but i agree with you - better to emphasize the feminine and/or the feline. what about English or other European mythology - anyone know the principal characters? i think i'll have to pass on master and slave since my kids will be offroading with me some day. attached a few more photos of the classic. enjoy.

I love that classic, to bad mine will never look like that
I have an 88' that I bought from explorer 4x4, and all my money's going into off-road mods first plus I have the d-90 to be pimpin fresh. So my classic won't look nice like that for along time

Move the Merc out.. Buy a new Black RR.... voila, you've got the three stooges, three musketeers, three blind mice.
Nothing against the Merc of course. You could use William and Harry

I think one possibility for the Classic is "Juggernaut." "Succubus" makes me laugh, but probably won't be a name i go with for either vehicle. I can't picture my little girl asking me to take her to school in the Succubus. The pimp / Rick James names gave me such a laugh that I did a little research into the craft of naming pimps, and thought you might enjoy the following gems (not that I'd use them): - Tricktickler - Treacherous Flava - Bishop Smooth - Trick Magnet - Sweet, Sweet Chocolate As to English traditional names and mythology, I spent an hour looking into old English, Gaelic, Celtic, Anglo, Saxon names. Too elaborate. Also looked at English, Welsh, Scottish counties and towns. Can't see naming either car "Cuthbert" or "Leicestershire." Maybe if I had a Rover in bad shape that I loved to hate, i'd call it "Cuthbert." I do maybe like "Ol' Solly" (for Solihul) as a name for a Series truck, but thats probably been done to death. Spent 30 minutes on names of heros and heroines from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Nope. Not going to name a car Eowyn or whatever. Plus people would think I was into D&D or something. I'm not. Too bad... Shadowfax and Grey Ghost are pretty good names. Best names I came up with were Beowulf and Grendle. Technically icelandic, but written in Olde English. Opinions?

If you go the pimp route, here are some must haves for a slow glide down the road.
http://www.pimpdaddy.com/ If you're a fan of Top Gun. Maveric and Goose could work.
