2001 4.6 HSE Should I do it?

Hello all,
This is my first time on these forums and I find these very interesting and educational. I currently own a 2004 Freelander and enjoy it a lot. However, I have always enjoyed Land Rovers and have always seemed to have this draw to Range Rovers. I am familiar with them, as many people I know have owned them. So, I know that they can and will break down.

I have found a 2001 4.6 HSE Range Rover with 80,000 Kilometers on it and I have a couple of questions about it. Should I be concerned with the high Kilometers on this truck? I have not had a chance to drive it but it does look clean and has be maintain by a Land Rover dealership here in town with whom I am friends with the mechanic there.

Another part of this is, if I buy this truck I will be getting an extended warrenty on it but does the warranty include the EAS system or does that not get covered under the warranty?

So what is the verdict should I get into it (I am leaning towards yes). I will not be doing a lot of off-road driving with it. I am also not worried about doing the fixes myself. Is the 2001 year model dependable?

because it drives a lot better than the Range Rover )
Warranty wise it looks pretty good but you should testdrive a 2001 Discovery
and compare. I am curious what you will say.

Funny you should say that about a Disco...I have thought about that as well. Would they not drive similar? I have taken out a 2003 out for a drive but not sure if I like that as much as the Range Rover but I am up for either one. Just really want a good Land Rover. I just need more room then the Freelander offers.

The descision has just become harder....Or has it?

80,000 miles on a Range Rover is not that high and if the car is properly maintained I don't think you have anything to fear;this plus the fact that you are familiar with Land Rovers put you in a good position. I have a 2000 Range Rover with less mileage and apart for the EAS system (which I had converted to spring), I have no problem with the car. As for EAS warranty, though most extended warranty covers the EAS system but its better for you to clarify with the seller and read the fine prints before handing over your cash because the EAS system although a very good invention is a very expensive problem with Range Rover.
I have no opinion about the Discovery, its a nice car but I will pick a Range Rover over a Discovery anyday.

Yes, I agree with Femrose. Without trying to scare you, any piece of machinery, vehicle or otherwise will eventually have a part break down. The more complicated it is, the greater the chances and perhaps frequency. It doesn't necessarily have to be thrashed or overworked, in some cases they actually perform better, and, they all seem to have a personality known only to you. So, if you have your mind set on the RR and have checked it out, go for it.

Even with the extended warranty, if the EAS starts to fail, it is a pain, because it tends to fail one piece at a time. So, the EAS failing will keep the car out of service from time to time, but that is if and when it fails (it eventually will, but when is the question). I have a 1998 Range Rover that didnt have an EAS problem until September of 2004. Bottom line, plan to convert it to spring coil at soem point.

I also have a 2004 Discovery II HSE. It is less complex than the Range Rover, and it definitely drives better, but the seats aren't as comfy and interior smaller. It's all a trade off. Also, the 2004 Disco is almost the same cost as a 2001 Range Rover

As long as you have another dependable vehicle, go for the Range Rover. My brother has a 97 Disco, I have a RR Classic. They are both fabulous rovers, but the Range Rover costs more $ for a reason. Buy the Rangie!!
