Default 2001 vs 2002 rangies

Hi everyone. I'm a new fish.
I've been considering purchasing a used Range Rover. I was wondering about the comparisons between 2001 and 2002 models. As I understand it the 2002 was a brand new model made while R.R was owned by BMW, and the build quality is of a better standard. The 4.6 ltr 4 speed was replaced with a 4.4 ltr 5 speed, making for a smoother and more economical ride. Could someone please confirm this and possibly tell me a little more about the advantages of a 2002 model as I have noticed they are about 20k more expensive....thanks

I'm guessing you mean the difference between 2002-2003 models. I love the character of the older P38 model, but the newer '03+ models are pretty remarkable. You're right on with the facts that you said about the two. Additionally, the P38s have solid axles (better for offroading) whereas the newer model has independent suspension (better onroad). Watch out for the air suspensions on the P38s, they're prone to failure so check to see if it's in good working order or has been replaced with coil springs. The newer model Range Rovers ('03+) seem to have more reliable air suspension.

Here's the P38 (1995-2002)

I know you know what they look like, but I'm just havin' some fun. Maybe they'll give you something to drool over

Thanks for the information. I tend to agree with you about the p38's character, and I sure had a bit of a drool over the photos. Thanks again!
