Default 2008 RRS HSE Front Wiper Problems

We bought a used 2008 RRS HSE with approx 50,000 miles. Immediately after purchase, I noted that the front wipers were very noisy and did not really work that well removing water from the windshield. I replaced the wiper blades which did not change a thing.

I was hoping that someone here would give me some tips Re: diagnosing and/or fixing the problem.

First, the wipers make a loud "kathunk" at each end of their travel before changing direction. It's much louder than the usual wiper noise in any other car we own. I don't expect them to be silent, but these are loud.

Additionally, the wipers leave significant water streaking when you're using them. Some portions of the wiper clear the water effectively, but other areas do not. More specifically, the wipers leave water streaks on the windshield right in the drivers view, but clears it effectively towards the ends of the wipers.

Since changing the wiper blades did not fix the problem, I wanted to check to see if you guys thought that the wiper arms might need replacing.

Because of the loud "kathunk" I had thought that the tension on the wiper arm was too high, but they lift off the windscreen very easily. Perhaps the tension is too low?

This is my wife's car, if I tell her to take it to the shop, then she'll take it to the LR dealer and I shudder to think what they'll charge to fix it. Plus, she doesn't think that it's a problem. So, I'd like to fix it myself.

If you guys think that replacing the wiper arms may fix the problem, could someone point me to a place to buy replacements and some directions for how to do it?

I'm no mechanic, but I can follow directions.

Many Thanks in advance

John

OK, so I bought 2 PIAA 22" 95055 wiper blades in the hopes that they would work better than the plain Goodyear's that I had installed.

But, the passenger side one does not fit correctly. The wiper arm is pushing down on the back of the blade, crushing the left side of the blade and causing the right side to poke up off the windshield.

Thoughts?
