Default 2009 Range Rover Sport Auto Wipers

Just purchased new '09 Sport HSE ... question .. when using the auto wipers ... does not seem to be any difference in the "minimum" setting and "maximum" ... was told by tech at local dealer that the windshield automatically detects amount of rain on windshield and adjusts frequency and speed of wipers accordingly ... if that is true then why 6 different settings and not just one .. every other vehicle I have owned has worked something like .. "minimum" setting wipers turn on every 20 secs .... 2nd setting maybe every 15 secs . ... 3rd maybe every 10 and on and on and on ... there seems to be no difference in operation of wipers from min to max on auto .. does this sound correct to anyone or do I have a problem ... the local tech at the dealership acted like everything is ok ...
