Default check engine light?!?!

i have a 97 RR and the check engine light came on... can i take it to the same mechanic i use for my other cars or should i take it to the RR dealer?

ugh... so stressed about it...

Stress isn't going to fix it so take a deep breath first.
If you have a good relationship with them, go for it so you can at least get the codes read. Have them write down the codes #'s, ask him if he can correct it and how much and then get back to us.

Alicia - is your rig doing anything specific or is just the CEL on? As Miguel (like that Mike? - that was a tribute to you leaving Cali) says, have them read the codes and then we can go from there. Or you can go to AutoZone and borrow their OBDII code reader and save yourself some money. Not sure where the OBDII plug is on a rangie but "Miguel" should know.

No, it isn't indicating your need for an oil change. Should get it in and have someone scan for codes soon.

the obd plug is on the passenger side nearest the center.
