Hi all,
I got a '96, Range Rover with diesel engine and manual gearbox. In the last weeks the clutch pedal has lost more and more his function, at the end I had to pump up the pressure at each traffic light to get the gear in. My first thought was that the upper clutch cylinder is responsible for the problem. The upper clutch cylinder has been changed now, after bleeding everything was fine. On the next morning I entered the car and the same problem as before did appear, I have to pump the pedal to get at least a bit of pressure to get the gear in. The cylinder below at the gearbox is dry.... has anyone a suggestion? Greetings Gerold |

How many miles on the clutch?
Sounds like the only 2 possibilites for your problem, would be the slave failing even though it is not leaking or the pressure plate. How does the truck shift when going thru the gears? Mike J. |

Hi Mike,
The clutch has about 50.000mls on his back.... Okay, try to explain a bit more: Today a had the car in front of the office for 4 hours, so I got in the car and I already recognized the pedal was without pressure (a bit pressure comes at the last 2 inch, close before the metal). Now I pumped 15 20 times, that brings enough pressure to shift the gears. Once the car is in motion on the road, I am loosing pressure fast, so I have to pump from time to time to enable shifting. Now to your question: When I have enough pressure, shifting gears work fine and smooth. Gerold |

Well, that pretty well sets up one of the cylinders. Sounds like your pressure is bleeding down, I am at a lose as to what to tell you. If you had a fluid leak, I would feel better on giving you some direction.
Sorry, Mike J. |

You might want to try bleeding the system again. If that doesn't get it then I would replace the slave cylinder next..
