Default Coil Spring Use

Hi There;

Even though I dont have any problems with my EAS yet, I am a bit curious about coil springs.

Yes I did try to search the forum on coil spring issue; some say dont do such a conversion some say go for it, what I am wondering is as follows;

First of all; I feel that with the original EAS system the vehicle is stiff as it is, when you convert to coils does the ride become more smooth or more stiff?

Secondly, with coil conversion does it effect the vehicles performance especially on highway use and high speed turns?

Last but not least I am actually trying to smooth the ride, any suggestions? I dont want it to be too smooth rocking back and forth with every dent on the road like Cherokee s though.

Thanks.

"First of all; I feel that with the original EAS system the vehicle is stiff as it is, when you convert to coils does the ride become more smooth or more stiff?"

I liked the EAS when it worked, and it gave a very good ride off road. When it failed (blown air springs on several occasions), it sucked Nothing like driving 30 miles on a very bumpy dirt road on the bump stops. Converted 1st to the Atlantic British standard coil kit. These springs were way too soft, which made the vehicle bottom out going over the smallest bump and drive like a boat half-full of water. Replaced the coils with OME coils from British Pacific, 777 for the front and 761 for the rear, for about a 1"-1.5" lift over standard ride height. Huge difference. The ride with the OME coils is awesome, very smooth, probably even better than the EAS

"Secondly, with coil conversion does it effect the vehicles performance especially on highway use and high speed turns?"

With the AB coils, yes. With the OME coils, no.

The BP OME kit would smooth the ride.

Do you have a link to where I can buy a kit complete with OME springs?

British Pacific http://www.landroverparts.us/RangeRo...rr2catalog.pdf

Also keep in mind that you'll probably need new shock also. You can use either OME shocks or Bilsteins. I have Bilsteins on mine, but would have gone with OME if they were available when I bought mine about 18 months ago.

You can also get them at expeditionexchange.com

But on the topic.. I switched to the OME coils with a ~4" lift. But I used the 751's in the front and 781's in the rear. The ride for me is much more stiff, but before I had the 751's in the front I had the 761's which were much more soft, but didnt fit with the 781's in the rear.. they were about 1.5" shorter. Although the 751's arent any bigger, the fact thet they are more stiff keeps my shiney(ish) new(ish) 32" BFG AT's from rubbing better on bumps ^_^
