Default engine knocking

today on the way to the shore my engine started to make a very loud knocking sound. I thought my exhaust was falling off but it ended up being the actual engine. The oil light also went on on my way home since I didn't want to take it all the way to the shore, but it only goes on when I take my foot off the gas. The oil level was very low so I added oil but the light is still on when i take my foot off the gas and I am still getting knocking. A couple days ago a gas station attendent mistakenly put regular gas in instead of super and i didn't catch it until there was $20 worth in. Could this be causing the knocking? Please let me know if anyone has any info! Thanks!
-Andrew

P.S. its a 1998 HSE with 123500 miles. Thanks!

took the truck in today. Engine is completely shot. As much fun as it's been, I'll never buy a range rover again
