Default Got it today! Slight scent of radiator fluid?

Got it today. Here is a pic. Don't worry, the running boards are coming off ASAP!

One question. I smell the slight scent of radiator fluid. It scared me because that was the last smell I remember before losing the motor in my Disco. The temp gouge stays about the middle and I see no leaks of any kind. Could this just be normal? I also checked the oil on the dip stick and looked on the filler cap for any signed of condensation or milkiness. Neither one.

Thank you

NICE!! When we had that smell in our '97 it was the o rings to the heater core behind the dash. A PITA but the smell went away

Thank you guys. As long as I don't overheat the motor. That cost me a lot of money last time. And if I remember correctly, the temperature gouge didn't even change until it was too late.

The scent is very light. Where should I look? Not to sound stupid, but where is the heater core?

And speaking of overheating. Any precautions or maintenance tips to avoid over heating? Should I periodically change the thermostat?

Heater core is behind the radio/console area! If you have more of scent in that area you have the answer. I bet that is what it is. As far as the overheating issues goes, every 2 years flush/fill your cooling system, keep the radiator free of blockage(mud, dirt, dead bugs etc). You can do the t-stat replacement but I believe in "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT"

Craigslist or e-bay. Other than that you don't want to really know the cost!

Also check RoverConnection, RoverAccessories, RoversNorth, and the other usual suspects.

Nice looking P38a.

look underneath the passenger side on the tunnel underneath the dashboard, run your hand on the carpet, if it is wet with coolant or you can see a leak with a flashlight the orings are leaking.
