Default Hood latch

The drivers side latch on my 1999 P38 broke. I can not open the hood now. Are there any tricks to open the hood???

Thanks

Smile move to canada

You must have me confused with someone else. I have always been here. I have had this handle the whole time I have been a member.

I repaired the latch myself. I made a hook from an old wire coathanger. I pulled on the latch cable at the passenger side thus enabling the hood to release. The hood was frozen in the winter. When I pulled the latch from inside it broke the plastic clips that held the wire on to the latches. I replaced the latch on the driver side. It was around $24.00 I also replaced cables to both latches. They were around $45.00. The passenger side latch was too expensive for me to replace as it has the alarm attached and it is over $125.oo Please feel free to ask any questions

we made a hook with an old wire coathanger. I pulled the cable from behind the grille. It undid the latch and we could open the hood

Thanks a lot for your explanation, that means there is access thru the front grille until you get the latch with a hanger wire .Thanks .

we did not pull the latch. The cable is mounted under the rad cross member. We pulled on the cable and this undid the latch
