WOW! Thanks for the help!! I'm still looking, but have decided to wait before buying. I've test driven a few in the last month or so and to be honest, they sucked! One was over $22,000 and had 180,000 miles! Another needed over 5grand in repairs (according to the dealer i took it to to get inspected) so I will continue to search but it may be a while before i actually purchase. Perhaps next spring (2008) I will be able to find a good 2002 with low miles from someone who actually cared for it. Every time I see one on the road I get goosebumps! I think the P38 is one of the best, if not the best looking car on the road today! One would look very nice parked next to my W140s...

$22K for a 2nd gen Range Rover with 180K miles is nuts. Even if its an 02 (which would imply 36K miles/year), if it was actually in Good condition, in your market it should only be worth $16K. Typical mileage for an 02 is 65K.
For comparison, there's a Green 2000 Holland and Holland Edition 4.6HSE in the Pittsburgh area with 38K miles on it selling for $21.9K. This is a limited edition car - 1 of 126, with very low mileage. So if its selling for $22K, whoever is listing the one with 180K miles for $22K has to be crazy.

Hey everyone, I thought I would check back in and let you know how my search is going. I drove 5 different 4.6HSE in the last few months and didn't like any of them! 2 needed new air suspension systems, 1 needed AC work, 1 needed tranny work and the prices were WAY more than I was willing to spend for the miles. All but 1 had more than 100,000 miles and were priced much too high were the sellers were unwilling to come down. Like I said before, I'd like to buy one local so that makes my search somewhat limited. When I find the right one, I think I'll know. Again, thank you very much for all your help! This forum has been a HUGE help! Now hopefully with summer comming up, I'll be able to get one for a good price with low miles. We shall see....

Dante, Rough luck I guess. Theres a 2000 H&H Edition in Long Beach, NY for $16.5 Buy It Now on Ebay with below 60K miles.
There is no need to buy one with 100K plus miles - those sellers are just not up to speed on what their car is worth! Sooner or later you'll find a good one.

I don't know why, but I'm not a huge fan of the H&H for whatever reason. Now obviously they will fetch the most money 10 years from now, but theres something I don't quite like about them. The right one will come around eventually....

Yeah i hear you on the H&H - interior color scheme not for everybody. Am still shocked there arent any good 4.6 HSE hiding around up there with 70K miles on them at 16 - 17 K. They turn up fairly often down here. Still, I remember I looked at about 12 vehicles before I bought one. A lot of them were in really bad shape. I don't know what gets into some people.

Dantefr, I had sent a PM a while back, so just a follow up in case you didn't receive it.
I have a 2001 SE for sale, and while I am in NY, I visit Scranton area most weekends, which is closer to you than NY Possible to meet somewhere in PA? 2001 Range Rover 4.6SE Mileage is 75,100, but it is in great shape, no stories. My phone and email are in ad. All the best, Karl. |

Karlusmagnus, yea i recieved the message, sorry i didn't get back to you! Due to some unforseen circumstances, I'm going to have to wait to purchase my Range Rover.... The lease is up on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in September of 2008 and I've decided to wait until then to buy a Range. I know, it's a real bummer!
HermanPj, I'm sorry but I don't do any work on my W140s, I'm the furthest thing from a mechanic! I would recomend finding a good indy Benz shop to have the work done. My mechanic here in Pittsburgh is only $40 an hour and is far superior to any benz mechanic at the stealership!

Alright, I'm back... the search was put on hold for a while and I'm back in the Range Rover game. Over the last year I've driven a few 2006 and 2007 HSE as well as the 2007 RR Sport HSE and Supercharged. They were all absolutely incredible! But for what I would use a RR for, it's stupid to spend a lot of money. Anyways, I have found a 2002 4.6 HSE with 75,000 miles in my area which I am looking at this weekend. I'm hoping this is "the one" as he also has a 2005 HSE and seems to be an honest seller. We shall see... besides the previous posts, is there anything I should pay extra special attention to when I go see the car on saturday?
