Default new compressor

Hey guys,
The other day I got the dreaded EAS fault and took my rover to the dealership. They told me that I need a full new system, or need to convert to springs, but i can't do that right now. The dealership said that I had moisture in the drying system, the compressor is weak, and that i have cracks in the air bags. Since the cracks didn't appear overnight I think I can get away with them since it will start to get warm again. (dealership said the cold is terrible for the bags) I ordered a new dryer through the dealership, and I want to get a compressor but if I buy one not from them, of course they will not install it. (their price is like $450) My question is, is it hard to install a new compressor? It looks pretty simple, but I just wanted to make sure. Also, if I do decide to replace the air bags, is that a really hard job? I got quoted from the LR dealership at $3300 for a new system. I checked on ebay and i can get a compressor for around $200 and a full set of new bags for about $450. If anyone can give me step by step instructions on the compressor that would be great! Thanks!!!

I actually could, but im at school right now. Is it really hard to do the conversion? If I did it I would only have a weekend to do it. I would have to go home on a friday, have the friday, all day saturday, and most of the day sunday, would that be enough time to do it??? If someone can give me the step by step on how to do it and it isn't too bad i'll try to order a kit tonight. Also, do the kits come with the bypass so that the air suspension won't read a fault?

Shouldn't be too hard... few hours I'd assume. All the info is located here: http://rangerovers.net/rrupgrades/su...coilconv4.html ... where abouts in NJ do you live again?

Hey would anyone be interested in the NJ or eastern PA area to help me do a coil conversion? I'm taking rmuller's advice.

did the car actually drop to the ground.

did the front drop or what.

cause the guy that says needs new bags and a compressor must be a new tech at the dealership that doesnt know how to diagnose a suspension system correctly.

There is no such thing as a weak compressor, either it works or it doesnt.

if you drain the system of air and it doesnt come up without assistance from a shot of compressed air from an air line, then you need a air compressor.

but if you got leaks then you have a problem before you go replacing bags.

if you got a spray bottle with dish detergent you can figure out where the leak is coming from. and trust me do it in the cold before you start up.

spray it down and then start the vehicle as the compressor starts to fill up the leaking bag will appear. and remember the tops ofthe bags do leak, thats near the plastic underneath, so get a flashlite and sit underneath the truck whilst its running with the air coming out. and the rears like to leak out of the bottom or the side but dont discount the tops.

hey,
when i brought the rover in the compressor didn't work at all and i was driving on my bump stops. When I talked to the tech he said that he was able to get the compressor to run, but it is weak. Now that it is about a week after I was at the dealership the compressor works, but it takes the car an insanely long time to go up. Sometimes 10+ miles which it never did. The tech said that all of my bags are dryrotted and are leaking.

Now Im having a new problem though, the car won't stay up. Right after I turn the car off, the car automatically goes down, which I guess means its the bags.

It really seems like too much of a hassle right now so I think converting to springs will be the right thing to do. I just need to find someone who can help me.

Since you are a tech you probably know how hard it is to replace the bags with springs though, do you think I would be able to do it a weekend? Also do I need any special tools?? Thanks!

need a set of jackstands and a jack to get the bags out and the springs back in and up.

its not hard but does take some time.

if you dont have the place to do it see about a mechanic that will do it for lower cost.

when you done you need to have the system converted to manual springs via the dealer.

"when you done you need to have the system converted to manual springs via the dealer."

Does that mean disengaging the air suspension? The kit that I am looking at includes instructons on how to disable all the fault codes.

I feel your pain. Contact Dennis at Rover Rennovations. I'm waiting on his response. He seems to be the resident expert. I'm not interested in converting. It's a nice accessory. Wife likes the feature. Have kids. Spend money.

Dennis was on vacation, so he's catching up on requests. He should be following up with you soon. If you want to keep your EAS, he's the guy. He won't sell you what you don't need...even better is that he'll tell you WHAT you need.

Today I got my conversion installed and wired up the rover so I don't get an EAS fault. The springs that I got actually make the ride a lot more smooth than I had with the air which I found surprising. The Springs also gave me a lift of about 2 inches over standard ride height so thats nice. I haven't taken it offroading today, but once I do i'll let everyone know how the springs are doing. On road they are great though!
