Default Newbie help - engine bearings P38 v8

hi everyone, my friend has a nice v8 P38 with most likely worn main bearings.
now i havnt had a chance to get under it yet but i was wondering if it was possible to do this from underneath by removing the sump - maybe just lifting the engine alittle to make some room ?? - ive done this on other cars.
or is it - get the engine out jobby ?
Many thanks for your help so we can plan the next step !!!

took the engine out when doing mine. made sense because you can then also inspect con-rod bearings, piston rings and so on and replace whatever's needed in one go.
