Default oil light, check engine light

My oil light has came on again along with check engine light. Last time this happened I replaced the oil pressure switch and it has ran ok for the last 6 months. The car is starting to grind again like before. Is this possibly a bad oil pump? 1997 Range Rover 4.0 SE. ??

I don't know what happened before, but the grinding concerns me. I wouldn't start the engine if it in fact is some sort of oil starvation problem.
Dp you have a better description of the noise and its location?
