P38 2.5 engine replacement non-starter help!

Hi everyone please read on

I recently bought a 1996 P38 2.5D which I was told required a new turbo. I have now found out that the reason the turbo had blown was down to someone atempting to cover up a damaged engine.
So I decided to replace the engine i sourced a 2.5d BMW engine from a BMW 525d 1996 which I was told could be adapted to fit.

******The engine was stripped and all the parts from the P38 swaped over and replaced where nesscary.

******The replacement engine was then installed

******The old wiring loom and ECU where connected up.

However now the engine will not work correctly. The mechanic working on the job has come to a dead end and now says he does not know where to go. The main problems encountered according to the mechanic are:-

............The fuel pump is not injecting the fuel; the fuel is coming into the pump but going no futher.

............The heater plugs are not heating.

Both cars where starting and running before the engine swap.

Any ideas please i'm all out and so is the mechanic????
