Default p38 alarm/

Hello. I am wondering if there is a way to permanently disarm a 97 p38 alarm system? The reason I ask is that if I dont use the truck for a month or two the alarm drains the battery and causes a no start condition. Thanks for your time and help in advance. Bye..

not really, they are designed to wake up periodically for height sensors but more importantly it could be picking up stray radio signals that are waking up the BCU.

I would have it diagnosed.

p38s pretty much all drain the battery within 3-4 weeks of non-use. At least, mine and every other one I know of does. You can't really disable it I don't think, and even if you could, I think it's the whole BECM that drains power. Plus the EAS ECM, which on most trucks remains active even if you remove the EAS system and switch to coil springs.

I'd reccommend that you get a float charger, either solar or plug-in, depending on whether you park near an outlet and can run power to the truck.

Problem is, if you just let it go dead and charge it up when you need it, you're going to kill your battery fast (within a year, probably). The charger will cost you about what one replacement battery costs.

I disabled my alarm & immobiliser,(Rovacom) but not for battery reasons.
Its all the stray radio signals that repeatedly awaikens the BCEM, not the alarm, I'd go for the trickle-charger.

I guess I'll use a trickle charger to juice up my baby. Is there any way to reduce the radio signals that wake up the becm? I dont use my remote key so I dont need the radio transmitter working on the becm. Thanks for everyones input. Bye.

Be sure that the charger you get says it's designed to be on constantly. Some 'trickle' chargers are for slow charging, but still require you to disconnect after 24 hours or so. You want a 'float' charger, which will turn itself on and off as necessary. Should still be relatively cheap, just make sure it's the right kind.

I just bought a trickle charger that can charge one or two amps at a time. It has some kind of cut- off device that will stop the charge once the battery is full. Should I charge it with one or two amps? Thanks.

The cutoff device is what's important.

Look at the directions... I have one similar, but when you read the fine print, they only want you to use the 1A setting for low-reserve batteries like motorcycle batteries.

If it doesn't matter, then I think the 1A would be easier on your battery. Either will work fine for you I think.

Land Rover have made available a better reciever that doesn't keep waking up the BeCM, if you park at an airport or have a home weather station etc etc the old one would wake it up all the time and drain at 1amp.

You might want to do 2 things, verify your battery is not starting to fail, if it is, buy a better battery. The other thought would be to call the dealers service dept and ask if a test book can access and turn off the system with out disabling the truck?

Just disconnect the Battery ,at your return to reprogram windows sun roof ect . it takes 10 minutes at the most and you will all the time find a perfect Battery.

Lockout due to Dead Battery: If you leave your RR parked at an airport or somewhere with a lot of radio traffic, the alarm system can keep getting woken up and cause the battery to die by the time you get back from your trip. Then open the door with your key, pop the hood, get a jump cable from some friendly passer by, hook them up and the BeCM locks the car, locking you out -- probably with your key in the ignition. Be very careful about where you leave your keys!

Using the Rovacom, go to BCEM, scroll down to the alarm/imobiliser box & switch one or both off. Central & manual locking still work, as does the flashing LED on the dash, however, if the car is locked with the remote, then unlocked with the key, the engine will still be imobilised.
