Default P38 Blinker light wont turn off!

OK fellas, I am brand new to the site with my first rover bought used today. It is requiring some elbow grease, but I am trying to get her running. The front driver blinker light will not turn off unless I take the bulb out. It is not blinking, just burning solid. It does not matter if the car is on or off, or if lights are switched on or off. Anyone have any ideas??

Holy crap dude. How much was this thing? Seams to have quite a few problems! And I hate to say it but.. this ones really funny. Im sorry I dont know how to help, at all, but I would just leave it.. well not really but it would confuse the hell out of people.

But to be at least kind of helpful, you said in your other thread the lock was gone.. so I guess its safe to say that someone has messed around with it and that may be the cause of the blinker problem.

Just an idea.

Yeah, bought it sight unseen on ebay. I made a "best offer" that I didnt think the owner would take.. 5.5k... he did and now I know why. Of course none of this was ever told to me and I am 950 miles away. Anyway, yes, the whole key lock on drivers door is gone. Its not just knocked in from a burgler, but it is carefully disconnected.

The battery was dead.. I put a new one in and was able to reprogram the alarm remote from where the key shaft once moved in the bottom of the door. This is fine since I was able to get into the car, but if the remote dies or if the fob opens, Ill be in a mess of trouble with no key access.

The bulb is out of the light now.

Also, I wouldnt care if it would turn off when the car was off. I can use old fashioned hand signals, but it is draining the battery if a bulb is in.

Ah I see. well thats a prety good deal I guess.. if that is all thats wrong. I honestly have no idea what to do about the flasher. But the door lock.. I would just replace the whole kit. Try the classifides either here or at discoweb.org. They should have quite a few disco door lock things that might work on the p38, but im not entirely sure. Otherwise they might have something at britishpacific or britishatlantic. I wouldnt try to install an aftermarket security system unles you can somehow bypass the car's origional system.. I dont think it would take kindly to strangers.

Yeah I was worried about that. The last thing I need it 2 alarm computers trying to keep me... or a burglar out. All I need is door lock and unlock, anyone know if I can disarm the security part and leave the locking?

I can almost 99% guarantee that the light staying on is because a fried tansistor in the BeCM. Don't take it to the dealer; they are going to want like 1500-2000 to fix it. You can either send it to http://www.bba-reman.com and they will fix it for $400 or you can purchase a used one and flip the top boards. Believe me you can flip the top boards - I have done it.

update: check this thread: http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtop...t=fuse++defect

It could be a wet-cable although everything points at the BECM it could be a cheaper 'problem'

Bye,
Goswin
