Default P38 engine cross compatability

I've got a '96 with a fried motor, coolant leaking out past the 3,4,5,6 spark plugs.

I've got a '97 P38 4.0 short block, used with 123k.

What I'm curious about is whether or not the '97 will go into the '96. I see no reason why it couldn't, but somebody told me that there was something different about them. Maybe the flywheel is different, maybe some external component is different, but in that case I should be able to transfer all of the original components over to the new block. As far as I can tell even the crank sensor mountings are the same.

So, will the '97 4.0 work properly in a '96 P38?

Thanks for any help in advance.

'96 P38, bought it with a blown motor at 186k, resealed a used 4.0 short block, now has 190k and still drives great. Bilstein shocks and coils, Magnaflow catback, and steelies. Lots more to come.
