Range Rover P38 Lower TAILGATE not opening - Land Rovers Only

A couple days ago the lower tailgate on my P38 Range stopped opening. I hear the lock attempting to disengage, but it will not come open. The upper part of the liftgate works fine. Is there any way for me to perhaps manually realease the lower gate in order to repair the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I guess,your vehicle,front left door latch assy is not working properly,
open the door panel,and check door latch assy,it should work.

This is going to sound daft, but I had the same problem on my P38 96 2.5DSE, top opened but lower tailgate lock was engaging but not opening.
1/2 can of WD40 sprayed into the tailgate, through any hole available and voila! haven't had the problem since!
