Range Rover Sports Brake Issue
So! Am I glad to discover that we are not the only people on the planet with a Range Rover Sports that won't stop when you brake.
I bought my daughter a 2006 Range Rover Sports fitted with Bembro brakes and 20-inch wheels. She reported a number of incidents to me where the brake pedal felt hard when she first started the vehicle in the morning. When she almost rolled into another car, I began to take her seriously. We reported the problem by phone to the dealer who told her the car was out of warranty and indicated no knowledge of this problem. Bring it in and we will fix it, for around AUD$3,000. I was away at that time and she got a quote from a non-authorised Range Rover specialist for around AUD$600. When she collected her car, the account was in fact closer to AUD$2,300. This increase due to a Range Rover dealer advising the repairer that a kit needed to fitted to sort out the problem. WOW - what a mess! I called Range Rover Australia. The young lady also denied any knowledge of the problem, agreed that the car was out of warranty and basically said "Bad luck, you should not have taken the car to a non-authorised dealer." OK - the car is repaired no more problems - so move on! But not quite. Suddenly the problem was back. Another hard brake pedal incident occurred. I then called the GM at the dealership who originally sold the car. He amazed me by revealing that the vehicle is still under warranty but expires on the weekend. Now I am really ****ed off.
Both he and a manager from Range Rover Customer Care then begin to get annoyed with my perseverance but stuck steadfastly to their story which includes:
1# Never heard of the problem
2# You should have known that the car was still under warranty
3# You should have brought the car to an authorised dealer
By the way I am told that Land Rover Australia record all customer interactions so there should be no argument who said what to who.
They almost had me convinced that we were the only Range Rover Sport owner in Australia with faulty brakes. Suddenly, I hear about a recall. Then I check the web and BINGO! Lots of other people had the same problem. What is Range Rover on about? How can they let any customer drive a vehicle with any kind of brake issue and still be able to sleep nights? And so we wait...for the recall notice which will provide peace of mind and hopefully, a AUD$135,000 vehicle which stops when you put your foot on the brakes.
