Default service engine flashing, brakes, "hiccups"

Yes, a long list.

I noticed today that the brakes on my '02 range rover w/ 76k need to be replaced, they are grinding a bit. I hadn't driven it in quite a while (wife's care) . Later, I noticed that the engine would jerk off and on while at about 2500 rpm. The service engine light was on.

Then, as I was accelerating to get on the expressway, the service engine light began to flash.

Can these all be related? can the need for brake work trigger the service engine light? could she have gotten bad gas -- explaining the rough running?

Or, should I get myself into the dealer post-haste?

any input would be appreciated!

Your Check engine light is flashing because your cats are being overfueled and melting interally.

Pull the codes and lets see what you got.

Default error codes

it pulled error codes 0304 and 0307 ( I gather they are misfires). They checked the wires and no sputter or "fireworks"

Those codes are for misfires for number 4 and 7 cylinders. How long has it been since you did plugs and wires, what octane gas is your wife using?

needs one ignition cylinder coil on the driverside.

4,7 are on the same coil and ground thru each other.

1 and six are also on the same coil but ground separately.
