Default Snow Emergency

got 1/4 inch of ice with about 5" of snow on top of it so I decided about 5am to go shovel my moms driveway about 7 miles away. It was the first time I got to drive my new 4.6 range rover in the snow because I either head to FL when it snows or my chick swipes it before I get up. I must say this thing SUCKS!!!! the Full time AWD I never even had to think about locking the diff in. infact it is down right boring in the snow, doesn't slide, stops well, no fishtails, nothing.. just goes.. my last time driving in the snow was a few months ago when I saw snow comming and jumped in the vette and headed for FL, I thought I would beat it and didn't..had to run over 200 miles on snow covered roads, now that makes for an interesting ride..

Snow Emergency

What It Means

According to an opinion by the Ohio Attorney General, the Sheriff of a county may declare a snow emergency and temporarily close county and township roads. This is usually done after conferring with the County Engineer and the local Emergency Management Agency when weather conditions have reached emergency proportions. Township trustees and the Ohio Department of Transportation may also be consulted.

There are three levels of snow emergency classifications:

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Drive very cautiously.

LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.

LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

The media is immediately notified by the Sheriff whenever a snow emergency is declared. Motorists are encouraged to monitor the Butler County Sheriff's web site or local media outlets for initial notifications plus any changes in the designated level of the snow emergency.

Remember, it is impossible to know the condition of every road in the County. These are only guidelines for the majority of roads. For example, if the advisory level is set at 1, there may be secondary roads that have deteriorated to a level 2 or even a level 3 condition. If snow is present, a good rule of thumb is to always presume that the road ahead is worse than the stretch of road you are currently on.

Drive safely and use caution in all winter weather situations.

I mean All four wheels sliding around a turn on dirt or in the snow, of course I don't mean drifting on dry pavement like I'm Tyler Foust.
In Colorado we get this white cold stuff that makes it really fun to drive and slide in.

Sorry I was trying to be a jerk, I was just saying that you can drift on snow and dirt, Rally racers have been "drifting" a lot longer than the new drift scene has been around for.

FYI

Just in case you have not studied the handbrake on the LR's.... Never Grab It To Slide! You will loose drive train parts!

I've seen the results of a kid trying it on Dad's RR2 at my old mechanic's shop! Lots o' problems to say the least!

To be fair I have seen it done (on video) successfully once, but it was Glare Ice therefore all 4 wheels locked up and it spun like a top! Looked amusing!

Oh... and the new 'drifting' is cool(ish), but it's really 'power oversteering'

haha dude, i have a bad enough time not keeping this thing from flopping on its side without pulling my handbrake...

I've done it in lots of cars though: porsche 911, mustang, 240sx, pt cruiser, mazda MPV minivan...

the best by far is the Mazda minivan, that thing just started spinning on pavement when we pulled it....it was one nasty spin lol
