Default Transmission fault?

My recently bought 4.0 ltr. p38 1998 model has a weird problem and i was wondering if anyone had any clues. The problem is like this:
While cruising the highway the other day, the engine started to rev up and power was lost to the wheels. The transmission seemed to be slipping. I stopped the vehichle and it wouldnīt move at all. Neither in D nor R. Absolutely nothing happened when moving the shift lever between D and R, although the indicator in the dash displayed the correct position.
I had the car towed to a garage and inspected. No axle snaps or anything.. - dropped the pan on the transmission and the fluid was clean and no debris. All very clean.
Converter is turning, so the flex plate isnīt broken. Transfer case isnīt at fault, since the parking lock works and wheels are locked.
Car sometimes displays " gearbox fault " when I try putting it in D or R and rev the engine...
Dealer diagnostic tool canīt communicate with the transmission control module.
It is like that now, and Iīm out of ideas.
-Any help and ideas much appreciated.
