Default 02 Disco II - Weird Three Amigos lights

2002 Disco II
61k miles

The trio keeps jumping out at me beeping and staying illuminated - seems to happen randomly under no certain situation.

When I turn the car off - it could be for 1 minute, 1 hour, or 1 day - the lights are gone when i start it up again -

They do come back however every few days -

What should I check first?

Thanks in advance.

So here are a few questions which if answered may help you.
Are you running factory pads and rotors? Are they aftermarket, if so whos? When ere you brakes last bled? Do you wheels have a lot of brake dust, are the brakes squeaking alot? Do it happen when your brakes get hot?

Listen to Mike he is pointing you in the right direction. I have this on my 03 and it can be a pain to figure out but its typically something to do with your ABS malfuncting in some way.

You may want to get the codes read.

I have had that several times before. It was a shuttle valve failure.

The valve is part of the ABS.

Peace,

Dan

My answer is the same as Smileys -

Just got this vehicle two weeks ago -
Everything on the vehicle is stock and the brakes do squeak from time to time, the brake dust on the wheels is pretty heavy.

The lights are always coming on during around town driving, never on the freeways.

Dan is right, you should get your codes read, and yes, the dust or squeaking coulc cause what your are experiencing, so could the old shuttle valve.
Mine come on twice a year after a hard run, I wait a month or so and go have them turned off and it is fine again for another 6 months. My sensors just pick up some squeaking when my DBA's get a little too hot and throw a code.

I had the same problem. Most likely a bad ABS sensor. Have the codes read.

You can also jack up the truck, remove your wheels and check to see if your senors are seated properly.

this sounds like a good idea. i dont want to pay to have these codes read right now. it just doesnt seem like theres a problem. last time they turned off by themselves, and it seems like the only reason theyre on right now is because of squealing brakes when its cold out and when reversing. when it gets above say 60 degrees out, there are no squeals. maybe im in denial, should i go to the dealer?

if it is a bad sensor, you have to go to the dealer to find out which one.

It is not just a mater of checking it, you need to make sure it is clean, set at the right depth and the part you can't do check the signal.
Takea a pretty high line scanner to diagnois an ABS problem.
