I have a 2003 Discovery II w/80k miles. I've had it for a few years and always run 93 octane. The engine light came on, then started blinking. I took it to a local shop. The said I have a misfire on 4 cylinders. He said he tried cleaning the Mass Air but that didn't help. He's now saying I need "just a full tune up" that will include plugs, wires, & 2 coil packs. He said he'd need to remove the plenum so the total cost will be $900.
My question - do you have to remove the plenum to change just the plugs & wires? I don't have $900, so I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can get the truck "mostly fixed" by just doing the plugs & wires in my garage.
http://www.kingsborne.com/ for your wires - get champion NLP 100320 or some say the bosh plugs. You will get plenty of input for sure, search the threads there are some that have removed plenum, some that have not.
I have done it three times all different. Try wires and plugs first, if it's a coil that is no fun. A MAFS can be a few bucks if they messed it up, "cleaning" it. $900 is high and mostly labor.
Have you had the codes read yet?
**Do not get budget wires and plugs you must have the real deal. Kingsborne or Magnacores only.
"= Random Misfire and a Chassis Acceleration Sensor Signal Low." There is no such code for a Rover.
He has to deal with 3 misfiring cylinder and 2 emission misfires only.
As for the 03, sounds like it has not been maintained for some time. What octane gas are you running?
Yes, the wires can be removed without removing the manifold.
For around $300, I can walk you thru doing my service that will give you a more up todate truck then that shop would have for $900. Do everything on this list.

Sry wrong chart/copy paste (kia oops)...my bad. Still, wires and plugs and everything else on mikes list...ok no more post's before second cup of coffee..
I'm looking at doing just plugs, wires, & a fuel filter. Will I need to remove the plenum? Or can I do the plugs & wires w/out removing the plenum? Also, is the fuel filter inline or in the gas tank? Thanks for all your help, guys!!!
It can be done either way removal or non removal. Just wires and plugs no need for removal. Works slow, one wire at a time take it off, measure / compare size, re-install. Follow the previous wires path, make sure boots are securely in place.
Get the good ones, no cheapies from the Zone....I did and wasted money and time thus the three times i had to do it.
Here are a couple tools that may help, the screwdriver is NOT my idea but I have used it.
